Cardinals injury report: Chase Edmonds, Jonathan Bullard limited on Wednesday

Three players sat out but none were because of any injury.

The Arizona Cardinals practiced on Wednesday and released their first injury report of the week. Three players sat out but none were because of injuries. The Cardinals are actually quite healthy.

Injuries limited two players and that was it.

Did not practice

  • WR Larry Fitzgerald (day off)
  • LB Terrell Suggs (day off)
  • LB Chandler Jones (day off)

These three just got the day off. They normally sit out of practice on Wednesdays.

Limited

  • DT Corey Peters (day off)
  • RB Chase Edmonds (hamstring)
  • DL Jonathan Bullard (foot)

Edmonds was unable to play the last three weeks with the injury. He is expected to play this weekend. Bullard missed the team’s last game with his injury.

Rookie offensive lineman Lamont Gaillard was also listed on the injury report with a thumb injury. He practiced fully on Wednesday.

Sean McVay: Rams’ play vs. Ravens no indication of how they will play vs. Cardinals

“We feel confident that that’s not a representation of what our football team is capable of and what we’ll hopefully put on tape in the next couple weeks.”

The Los Angeles Rams are coming off an embarrassing 45-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. They allowed the Ravens to score touchdowns on their first six possessions and did not find the end zone themselves.

They are 6-5, a far cry from the 13-3 or 14-2 expectations that many had for them entering the season after making the Super Bowl.

So can the Cardinals expect to play a Rams team that performed the way it did against the Ravens?

Rams coach Sean McVay says no.

“What happened in that game is not going to be an indication of what we have an opportunity to do against the Cardinals,” McVay told reporters Tuesday. “That’s really, that’s the truth. You just look at the week-to-week things that occur in this league. As long as you have the ability and a positive way of moving forward and not letting that deter your ability to move forward and get those things fixed. We feel confident that that’s not a representation of what our football team is capable of and what we’ll hopefully put on tape in the next couple weeks.”

The Ravens embarrassed the Rams. They are also one of the league’s best and hottest teams right now, a team many feel will make it to the Super Bowl. The Cardinals are 3-7-1 and have one of the league’s worst defenses.

The Cardinals certainly are capable of winning but fans should not expect the Rams to come in and play like they did on Monday night.

They are a team that knows how to win and will most certainly come with a lot of fight and a chip on their shoulder.

If they play better and the Cardinals do what they have been doing, it should be an extremely entertaining game to watch.

Cardinals only 2.5-point underdogs at home vs. Rams

They open the week underdogs as they have every single week this season.

The Arizona Cardinals open Week 13 as underdogs again. They have opened every single week this season as underdogs. Only one, against the Carolina Panthers when Cam Newton missed his first game, did the Cardinals finish the week as favorites.

This week, against the 6-5 Los Angeles Rams at home, they are not big underdogs.

According to BetMGM, the Cardinals are only 2.5-point dogs at home.

The over/under is set at 47.5 points, which seems low considering the Cardinals’ defense and the fact they have scored at least 25 points themselves in six of the last seven games.

Betting the moneyline for a straight-up winner, the Rams are -162 (you have to bet $162 to win $100) and the Cardinals are +135 (you win $135 with a $100 bet).

So far this season, the Cardinals are 8-3 or 7-3-1 against the spread, depending on the spread when gameday came around. They have been a good bet overall.

Hopefully, they not only cover the spread but also get the actual win against a Rams team that is struggling.

Cardinals appear to be nearly completely healthy after bye week

Only Jonathan Bullard was not seen in the open portion of practice on Monday. The formal injury report won’t come out until Wednesday.

The Arizona Cardinals returned to work on Monday after their bye week and had a bonus practice leading up to their Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams at home. It appears they are in pretty good shape with their health.

As previously noted, running back Chase Edmonds was back on the practice field on Monday.

In fact, according to AZCardinals.com’s Kyle Odegard, there was only one player who was not on the field during the open portion of practice. That was defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard, who missed the last game with a foot injury.

There will be no official injury report until Wednesday but it would appear they had almost full participation in Monday’s extra practice.

Getting healthy for the final five games of the season will help them potentially build momentum for 2020.

RB Chase Edmonds expected to play for Cardinals vs. Rams

He missed three games with a hamstring injury.

The Arizona Cardinals plan on having a completely healthy running back room in Week 13. After having at least one injured running back for each of the last five games, they should have David Johnson, Chase Edmonds and Kenyan Drake all healthy and ready to suit up when they take the field at home against the Los Angeles Rams.

Edmonds suffered a hamstring against the New Orleans Saints and missed three games. He is set to return this weekend, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

He was back at practice on Monday.

“He looked good today,” Kingsbury told reporters Monday. “He feels good. He has worked really hard to be back.”

He expects Edmonds to play. “Hopefully we can get him back going.”

Edmonds saw his role increase week by week earlier in the season and then rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns against the New York Giants when David Johnson’s ankle bothered him.

He has four rushing touchdowns this season, all at least 20 yards in length.

The next question for the team is how they will utilize all three backs or whether they will be able to use all three. “It’s a good problem to have, to have three very talented running backs,” said Kingsbury.

Edmonds isn’t worried. If the Cardinals can get the number of snaps up to where they would like, he believes there is playing time for all three.

If not, he believes it will work.

“It’ll be fine, man,” he said, according to the team site’s Kyle Odegard.
“We’re all talented. We’re all selfless. It’s not going to be a problem at all.”

Breaking down the remaining games on the Cardinals’ schedule

The Cardinals play five games in December. What does each opponent look like right now?

The Arizona Cardinals have finished their bye week and have five games remaining on their schedule. They play their next three games at home and then are on the road in Seattle and Los Angeles for the final two games of the season.

They play the L.A. Rams next and then again last.

Let’s look at their opponents coming up.

Week 13, Week 17: Los Angeles Rams

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 6-4 (entering Week 12)

The Rams are a balanced 3-2 at home and 3-2 on the road. They are 3-2 in their last five games. However, they are 0-2 in the division.

They are 13th in the league in total offense and 10th in the league in scoring, averaging 24.3 points per game.

They are seventh in passing offense and 21st in rushing.

Defensively, they are 11th in yards and 11th in points allowed, giving up 19.8 points per game. They are 16th in passing defense and fourth in rush defense.

Leading passer: Jared Goff — 2,783 yards, 11 TDs, 10 INTs

Leading rusher: Todd Gurley — 525 yards, 4.1 YPC, seven touchdowns

Leading receiver: Cooper Kupp — 61 catches for 845 yards, five touchdowns

Sack leaders: Aaron Donald (8), Clay Matthews (7)

Both games are winnable. A split is a reasonable expectation. Especially coming off the bye, they hopefully win the game at home.
