Cardinals WR Michael Wilson bounces back after early miscues

Wilson’s mistake led to a defensive touchdown for the Eagles but two of his catches tied the game in the second half.

In the Arizona Cardinals’ 35-31 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, rookie receiver Michael Wilson had both a good and a bad game.

It had been a struggle for him over the last month and things started poorly for him in Philly, but he recovered and made big plays in the second half.

In the first quarter, Kyler Murray’s interception that was returned 99 yards for a touchdown by Sydney Brown because of a miscommunication.

Before the play, Murray looked right at Wilson and gave him a signal about a change that was made. Wilson was slow off the line of scrimmage and cut his route toward the middle of the field. Even before Wilson made his cut inside, Murray already had released his pass to the front corner of the end zone, expecting Wilson to go there.

The only player there was Brown.

After that, Wilson was seen giving a poor effort on a block on a run play, which is uncharacteristic of him. One thing he has been praised for all year is his willingness and ability to block in the run game.

However, Murray’s trust in Wilson didn’t waver.

He went on to catch four passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. A catch that didn’t go on the stat sheet was a two-point conversion from Murray that tied the game at 21. His touchdown reception tied the score at 28.

He had not caught a pass since Week 10.

Murray said after the game that Wilson’s receptions, especially to score, were “a booster for him.”

“He was really excited about it on the sideline after he scored,” Murray said, “just to trust him and show him the cut, you know, show him that I got him no matter what.”

With one game remaining this season, Wilson can wrap up his rookie season with a strong performance against the Seattle Seahawks.

He has 32 receptions for 470 yards and three touchdowns. Reaching 500 yards should happen, which would be a decent start to a career.

All studs, no duds in Cardinals’ win over Eagles

The Cardinals had fantastic performances from several players in their 35-31 win over the Eagles on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals surprised everyone on Sunday with a 35-31 victory on the road over the Philadelphia Eagles. They did it behind a strong offensive performance.

While defensively, they came up with a couple of stops, but the story was how they dominated the game offensively.

This week, there were not studs and duds. They were all studs. These players stood out in their performance.

Cardinals’ win over Eagles costs them 2 spots in NFL draft

The Cardinals held the No. 2 pick entering Week 17. After a win, it drops to No. 4.

The Arizona Cardinals picked up a fun and exciting win on Sunday, a 35-31 road win over the Philadelphia Eagles. It was their fourth win of the season and third since Kyler Murray returned from his knee injury.

The win came with a price.

They entered the week projected to have the second pick in the 2024 draft as the only three-win team in the league, just ahead of the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots.

The Patriots and Commanders both lost on Sunday, giving them a three-way tie with the Cardinals with four wins.

But the tiebreaker for the NFL draft order is strength of schedule. The strength of schedule for both the Patriots and Commanders is .515, while the Cardinals’ is .567.

As a result, the Cardinals have the last pick of the three teams.

If the season ended today, they would have the fourth pick.

Mistakes overshadow Cardinals’ first-half dominance over Eagles

The trailed 21-6 at halftime but moved the ball well.

The Arizona Cardinals trailed the Philadelphia Eagles 21-6 at halftime in Week 17. That was probably something most would have expected. However, the score did not tell the story of the first half.

The Cardinals really dominated the first half but mistakes were the problem.

They possessed the ball for 21:48 of the 30 minutes of the first half, outgained the Eagles 179 yards to 152 and converted on half of their third downs.

They made it to the red zone three times.

However, those three drives ended twice with field goals and once with an interception returned for a touchdown.

The Cardinals got inside the five on their first drive. Kyler Murray was tackled for a negative run and Emari Demercado dropped a third-down pass, leading to the field goal.

On their second drive, Murray was picked off by Sydney Brown, who returned the interception 99 yards from the one for a touchdown.

On that play, Murray signaled something to receiver Michael Wilson before the play. Wilson got off the line of scrimmage slowly and then, once Murray had started to throw the ball, took his route to the inside. Murray expected him to run toward the left pylon at the goalline.

The only player there was Brown, who picked it off and scored.

On the Cardinals’ third drive, D.J. Humphries was flagged for a false start on third down, giving them a third-and-12. They had to settle for three points.

The offense was very good but red-zone mistakes plagued them.
