Watch what Chris Holtmann had to say about Ohio State’s loss to Indiana

Chris Holtmann met with the media after Ohio State lost its fourth-straight. Watch what he said following the loss to Indiana.

Ohio State lost its fourth-straight game, this time on the road to a motivated and hungry Indiana team. There were moments in which the Buckeyes seemed to play much smarter and more aggressive than the last few, but the second half was much more of the same.

Buckeye head coach Chris Holtmann met with the media after the game to discuss his team’s performance. You can catch his comments in their entirety thanks to video shared to YouTube by the Columbus Dispatch.

Ohio State will now head home to host Nebraska Tuesday night. It’s one it simply has to have.

Ohio State basketball loses to Indiana. Three things we learned.

Ohio State dropped its fourth in a row after a second-half collapse at Indiana. Here’s three things we think we learned.

Another game in the Big Ten, another loss for Ohio State. In a contest the Buckeyes desperately needed, they couldn’t finish the deal and lost on the road to Indiana 66-54.

The Hoosiers used a spurt at the beginning of both halves to gain separation. OSU was able to claw all the way back in the first twenty minutes, but couldn’t do it in the last twenty because of some poor shooting.

It was a little better showing than the last couple of games, but a loss is still a loss, and now you have to wonder how a team with so much promise will find a way to get back to its winning ways. The team now drops to 11-5 overall, and a very surprising 1-4 in the Big Ten.

As usual, here are three things we learned.

Next … Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers

Ohio State absorbs Indiana hot start, leads at halftime 34-31

Ohio State had to absorb a hot shooting start by Indiana but reeled the game back in and now lead by three at halftime in Bloomington.

Ohio State went into Bloomington and had to absorb a white-hot start by Indiana. The Hoosiers came out on fire and went up by nine-points mid-way through the first 20 minutes thanks to some hot shooting. But the Buckeyes have shown more assertiveness and composure than the last few games. They kept playing defense, kept creating their own luck and went into halftime up 34-31.

Andre Wesson kept Ohio State in the game early when Indiana was seemingly making everything — splashing its first 8 of 11 shots. He leads all scorers with 10 points at the half. D.J. Carton and Kaleb Wesson each chipped in 7 points apiece.

But one half does not make a game. The Buckeyes will have to continue to play hard, smart and keep their composure in a place that is historically tough to play in. You can bet that Indiana will make a couple of runs here in the second twenty minutes at home. Off to the second half.

Ohio State forward Kyle Young back in the lineup, starts against Indiana

Ohio State forward Kyle Young is back from injury and was plugged into the starting lineup against Indiana.

He was to be a game-time decision, and it appears as though the decision was to start Ohio State forward Kyle Young against Indiana today. It was obvious pregame during warm-ups that Young was able to do quite a bit, then when the starting lineup was announced and trotted out, what many would consider the glue of this team stepped out among the five to start things off in Bloomington.

Young had been dealing with fatigue, pain, and a lack of conditioning as a result of having to an appendectomy the night after the West Virginia game. During his absence, the Buckeyes lost two-straight and seemed to lack the killer instinct and confidence that defined it early in the year.

We’ll see how much Young can go today, but having him back in the lineup can hopefully provide a boost for a team that sorely needs it.

Ohio State wrestling takes down No. 24 Rutgers

The Ohio State wrestling team stayed hot by taking care of a nationally ranked Rutgers team in the Covelli Center.

The Ohio State wrestling team appears to be hitting its stride as the season continues on. It still has some things to work out because of injuries and competition, but things are beginning to become more solidified at each weight class. That continued tonight with a hard-fought 22-13 dual-meet team win over No. 24 Rutgers Friday night.

As you would expect, both No. 1s got it done tonight with Luke Pletcher taking down JoJo Aragona at 141 lbs., and Kollin Moore disposing of Jordan Pagano with a major decision at 187 lbs. With the victories, both men remained undefeated on the year.

Other Ohio State winners were Sammy Sosa at 149 lbs., Ethan Smith at 165 lbs., Kaleb Romero at 174 lbs., and Gary Traub at heavyweight. All told, the wrestling Bucks took six of the ten matches with four major decisions and ran their dual-meet team record to 5-1.

OSU is next in action next Friday against Wisconsin on the road.

Ohio State wrestling moves back into top five of NCWA Coaches Poll

The Ohio State wrestling team has moved back into the top five of the NCWA Coaches Poll after its team win over Arizona State.

The Ohio State wrestling team knocked off a top-five Arizona State squad on Monday night. It was as close as it could be with the Buckeyes pulling out a one-point 17-16 dual meet team final score. With the Sun Devils winning five matches and OSU winning five, it all came down to bonus points with the scarlet and gray having the slight advantage.

And now, for its spoils, head coach Tom Ryan and his team have jumped back up into the top five in the latest NCWA Coaches Poll. The team everyone is chasing continues to be No. 1 Iowa followed by Nebraska (2), Penn State (3), and Virginia Tech (4).

NC State (6), Arizona State (7), Wisconsin (8), Oklahoma State (9), and Pittsburgh (10) round out the top ten.

Yes, it’s true that the Big Ten has this year pretty well locked down.

Former Ohio State running backs coach Stan Drayton could be reunited with Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas

Former Ohio State running backs coach Stan Drayton is reportedly a candidate for the same post with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys missed the NFL playoffs this year, and as a result, sent head coach Jason Garrett on his merry way. There is plenty of blame to go around, but at the end of the day owner Jerry Jones brought in Mike McCarthy to try and rally a talented roster for next season.

One of those players is former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott. He still had a good year but missed out on the rushing title this season after holding the crown for two of his first three seasons.

Now that McCarthy has been introduced as the head coach for America’s Team, he’s in the throes of putting together his coaching staff. One of the names that has surfaced as the potential running backs coach according to our sister site Cowboys Wire is none other than former OSU assistant Stan Drayton. He left Urban Meyer’s staff after 2014 to join the staff of the Chicago Bears, then ended up under head coach Tom Herman at Texas in 2017.

While at Ohio State he coached Elliott during the national title run in 2014. A year in which the former Buckeye star went on an unbelievable run at the end of the year.

There’s no doubt McCarthy knows this and thinks the fit could be a good one to help build a bridge for Elliott with so much change coming.

This has to be good news for Zeke if it comes to fruition.

The Ohio State basketball team hits the road to take on Indiana. What will happen? Who is the key player for the Buckeyes? Get it all here.

The Ohio State basketball ball team needs a win in the worst way. After getting out of the game with some mighty impressive wins, it has fallen into a bit of a downward spiral. Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann previews the Indiana Hoosiers

Ohio State head basketball coach Chris Holtmann met with reporters on Friday to preview the Indiana game. Watch what he had to say.

Ohio State will try to put a stop to a three-game losing streak when it travels to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the Hoosiers. Despite a fantastic start to the 2019-2020 campaign, the Buckeyes have hit a serious skid as of late and are all of a sudden in dire straights to get things corrected before the Big Ten race gets away from them.

Head coach Chris Holtmann met with the media in Columbus Friday to preview the matchup. The last two times OSU has traveled to Bloomington the game has come down to the very last minute, and there’s no doubt both teams will be hungry and motivated in this one.

Click on the below and listen to Holtmann’s comments in their entirety. He provides a health update on Kyle Young, talks about freshman growing pains, the continued search for offense and confidence, and more.

Ohio State forward Kyle Young will be a game time decision at Indiana Saturday

Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann met with the media Friday ahead of the game at Indiana and provided a status of forward Kyle Young.

Ohio State basketball is hoping to get forward Kyle Young back, but exactly when is still unknown. Head coach Chris Holtmann met with the media Friday ahead of the showdown with Indiana in Bloomington Saturday and said the Young will be a game-time decision.

“As far as Kyle’s concerned, it’s going to be really to be up until game-time,” said Holtmann. “He was able to do a few more things yesterday, and he was able to move and do some things, but it’s probably too early to determine exactly what his status is going to be. He’s more ready to play than he was the other night, so we’ll see. A lot of it has to do with just the normal fatigue level that you have when you have your appendix taken out. He’ll kind of be a game-time decision.”

If you’ve watched the Buckeyes over the last couple of games, it should be clear that Young’s absence means quite a bit. The team is missing one of its main guys that has an all-around floor game. He gets rebounds, plays good interior post defense, and can get some of the ugly, scrappy points that are so important in Big Ten play.

For now though, we’ll just have to wait to see if he is healthy enough to go without putting him in further jeopardy. The last thing the coaching and medical staff once to do is put him in a position where his body doesn’t respond like it should, resulting in further harm.
