LOOK: Columbus born wings joint catching blowback for pro-Michigan tweet

A national wings joint born in Columbus shared a tweet that is pro-Michigan and very much not Ohio State friendly. Let the fireworks launch.

The Ohio State vs. Michigan football rivalry runs deep, and one national wings joint born in Columbus is learning that lesson the hard way.

They say Tweets never die. You can take them down, delete them, and attempt to walk them back, but think twice before you hit that send button because someone will always capture a screengrab and have it live on for eternity. Not only that, but people’s memories can be very, very long when it comes to things of passion. You know — like Ohio State vs. Michigan.

Before we hit this thing head-on, a quick history lesson of Buffalo Wild Wings. It was born in Columbus just a stone’s throw from the Ohio State campus. From there, it spread across the country like wildfire, but the roots are right there in the DNA of central Ohio. In the DNA of central Ohio is THE Ohio State University.

However, that was lost on the wing giant when it reacted to a response to one of its questions on Twitter. It all had to do with J.T. Barrett and the “spot” in overtime on fourth down vs. Michigan in 2016. Of course, Michigan fans’ bleeding hearts will go to the grave believing Barrett was short and that the game should have ended. Ohio State fans have a different outlook. The reality is that it was super close.

But Buffalo Wild Wings laid down the gauntlet on Michigan’s side with a simple response to its original tweet of what the worst sports loss ever was for fans.

In a moment that’s the opposite of forward-thinking, the personality behind the Twitter account of Buffalo Wild Wings threw down the gauntlet and simply replied “short” to B1G Champs Barstool Blue’s scarring share of the Barret spot.

From there, things have not gone well. We’ll let you sift through the thread for yourself, but we wouldn’t be surprised if some of the BW3s in Columubus have some serious damage control to do before they have to shutter their doors.

Yes, embargoes are in full effect in cities across Ohio, especially Columbus where the restaurant was founded in 1982.

Five father and son Ohio State football legacy duos

In honor of Father’s Day, we’re highlighting five Ohio State father and son legacy duos throughout history. How many do you remember?

It’s Father’s Day and we’re here to wish all dads a day of whatever it is they’re looking for. For me, it’s spending time with my family and maybe getting a chance to relax. That’s hard to do, but I’ll give it my best shot.

In honor of Father’s Day, we decided to highlight five father and son duos that have had a chance to put on the scarlet and gray for the Ohio State football program. Some you will recognize, and others, you may have either forgotten or not recognized.

This is not all-encompassing, but we’ve dug up the only three father and son combinations that were both captains at OSU in their careers, plus two of the most recognizable duos.

Let’s get on with it for this Father’s Day of 2021. And as a reminder, call your father at some point on this Sunday.

Ohio State QB commits that have competed in the Elite 11 Finals

There have been a number of Ohio State football quarterback commitments compete in the Elite 11 Finals. Here’s a list of all of them.

The highly anticipated Elite 11 Finals, repping some of the best high school quarterbacks in the country, are just around the corner. Last year’s was shelved because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the 2021 version is set to take place from June 30 through July 3 in Los Angeles.

The competition began in 1999 and is designed for the best of the best high school quarterbacks to compete against each other in several drills and competitions. There’s been an Ohio State flavor to it in the past, especially most recently, and that trend will continue with 5-star 2022 OSU commitment Quinn Ewers accepting an invitation to compete.

In the meantime, we thought it’d be fun to remind you of all the Ohio State quarterback commitments that have taken part in the Elite 11 Finals through the years.

Ohio State 5-star commit Quinn Ewers set to compete at 2021 Elite 11 finals

Ohio State five-star 2022 quarterback commit Quinn Ewers is preparing to take part in the Elite 11 Finals.

The Elite 11 has become one of the most followed high school quarterback competitions for big-time prep prospects to showcase their abilities. The competition has been around since 1999, and many of the alumni go on to do some pretty special things in college and the NFL.

It all starts with regional competitions that sort out the best of the best, with the finals usually taking place at Nike headquarters for those deemed worthy to advance based on their performances. Last year’s event was scrapped because of COVID-19, and this year’s event will be in Southern California.

This year, one of the participants is five-star Ohio State commit Quinn Ewers. If you follow college recruiting at all, you know that Ewers is considered the consensus top prospect in the entire 2022 class. He has bedazzled and impressed many at the regionals and other camps and competitions so far, and now he is going to get his shot to showcase himself at arguably the most prestigious quarterback competition on the planet.

Joining Ewers in Los Angeles is another stacked and talented high school crop of college signal-callers. You can get a look at all 18 players looking to become Alpha-Dog of the camp so far by visiting our sister site List Wire.

In the meantime though, this year’s Elite 11 finals will run from June 30 through July 3. We’ll be on top of how Ewers stacks up against the rest of the best.

ESPN compares Ohio State vs. Alabama job. Which wins out?

Is Ohio State or Alabama a better job today in college football? ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg tried to answer the question. Who wins out?

Adam Rittenberg of ESPN has been publishing a series of out-of-season pieces on college football that we’ve been keeping a close eye on. One of the latest efforts is a stab at comparing certain jobs across the country and he bit off a big one last week when attempting to size up (subscription required) the Alabama job vs. Ohio State.

With the combination of where both programs are, their historical significance, and the brand of both, there may not be two programs that are at the top of the food chain more than the Crimson Tide and Buckeyes. It was close when going through these things and others like support, fanbases, and facilities, but in the end, Rittenberg declared a winner.

So, who did he pick?

Every Ohio State football player in the College Football Hall of Fame

Ohio State has some of the most iconic players in college football history. Here is a list of Buckeyes in the College Football Hall of Fame.

It’s the pinnacle of any sports career — making it into the Hall of Fame. With Ohio State being one of the best college programs of all time, you can bet that the Buckeyes have had their fair share of players and coaches that have been enshrined in Atlanta.

With the news of the latest College Football Hall of Fame ballot including former OSU players James Laurinaitis and Mike Doss, we thought it’d be fun to take a walk down memory lane and remember all the former Ohio State players that can already be referred to as HOF members.

Get ready, because there is a bunch of them — 24 to be exact. And while that pales in comparison to Notre Dame’s 44, it is still the fourth most of any program in the history of the sport. The other two ahead of the Buckeyes besides the Irish? USC is second with 30, and yes — Michigan — is third with 25 players having been inducted.

Here are all 23 players that wore the scarlet and gray and eventually made their way to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Jae’Sean Tate named to First-Team NBA All-Rookie squad

Former Ohio State basketball forward Jae’Sean Tate was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team for his breakout year with the Rockets.

Former Ohio State basketball forward Jae’Sean Tate sure has turned himself into one whale of an NBA player. Undrafted out of college in 2018, Tate decided to take his talents overseas where he worked hard and developed to the point that he was able to impress enough to be given a shot with the NBA’s Houston Rockets this past season.

Tate has done so well that he was named to the NBA’s First-Team All-Rookie team for the 2020-2021 season. He played in 70 games, with 58 of them coming as a starter — both stats leading the team. The former Buckeye averaged 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting over 50 percent from the field. Over the last 10 seasons, Tate is just the second undrafted player to earn All-Rookie Team honors.

With the honor, Tate becomes just the sixth Ohio State player in history to make an NBA All-Rookie team joining John Havlicek, Jerry Lucas, Kelvin Ransey, Clark Kellogg, and D’Angelo Russell. Not bad company at all.

If there’s ever a guy to look at and advertise the outcomes of continuing to work hard to reach a lifetime dream, you’re looking at him in Jae’Sean Tate.

College Football Playoff expansion to move forward to feedback phase, needs more time for ultimate decision

The College Football Playoff has decided to move forward with feedback towards expansion. It’s the next step, but it’ll all still take time.

The proposal to expand the College Football Playoff to a 12-team format will move forward to the feedback phase according to CFP executive director Bill Hancock.

“The management committee praised the working group for its proposal,” said Hancock in a statement. “The process will move forward, and the proposal will be discussed next week by the board of managers.”

As far as the timing goes though, don’t expect an announcement about future plans anytime before the college football season kicks off this fall.

“Vetting with everyone on campus will be an important element,” Hancock said. “The working group’s proposal was the first step in a long process. It’s important to reach out and listen to a wide variety of people involved in college football. This is a very exciting time for college football. The working group’s proposal includes many details that must be carefully reviewed and discussed. We look forward to that review.”

And that review will take time. There will be a meeting next week with the board of managers, and at that time the management committee will ask for permission to solicit feedback over the next few weeks and months that will be critical in determining what a final product might look like.

That feedback is expected to include student-athletes, university presidents and chancellors, athletics directors and coaches. What is received and the feasibility of putting it all into action will be critical towards continuing to move forward with playoff expansion. Just don’t be sitting on the edge of your chair just yet.

“We just need time to review this with our folks here on campus,” Hancock said. “That was the prevailing theme of the meeting. We just need more time.”
In other words … stay tuned.

The only eight teams to beat Ohio State football in the Urban Meyer and Ryan Day era

Ohio State has only been beaten by eight programs during the Urban Meyer and Ryan Day era. Here’s a list of who and when it happened.

While you could easily argue the Ohio State football program should probably have more national championships since Urban Meyer took the reins of the program, the rate at with the Buckeyes have won games since 2012 is staggering. Overall, OSU has gone a ridiculous 106-11 (.906) since Meyer’s first season in 2012 through last year’s loss in the national title game by Ryan Day’s squad.

Day has even done a little better. Meyer went a staggering 83-9 (.902) in seven years in Columbus, but Day has kept things going, posting an even better (albeit shorter sample size) 23-2 (.920) record among three pretty quirky years. The record might be even better had the season not been abbreviated because of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

So, during that nine-year run (going on 10), beating the Buckeyes should be seen as nothing less than a feather in the cap of a program. Many have tried, few have succeeded. All told, only eight programs have put a mark in the loss column of OSU, and we’ve got them all for you (Hint: none wears maize and blue or winged helmets).

Here is the shortlist of teams that have beaten Ohio State during the Urban Meyer and Ryan Day tenures on the banks of the Olentangy.

LOOK: EA Sports give peek of Justin Fields in Madden 22

There’s a screenshot of an early peek at what former Ohio State and current Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields looks like in Madden ’22. Look.

Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is hoping he’ll take the NFL by storm this fall and winter, and so are many Chicago Bears fans. Heck, there are quite a few Buckeye fans that are also pulling for the former Heisman finalist to light up opponents that come to the Windy City when he gets his chance under center.

We’ll have to wait to see when that happens, but soon, you can at least use him to sling passes all over opposing defenses in Madden 22. The wildly popular NFL franchise video game by EA Sports is set to release on August 20, but before that, they are providing us with some teasers and trailers to get things going to a boil.

In fact, there’s already a teaser screenshot of Justin Fields in his Chicago Bears uniform as he looks in Madden 22. If you haven’t seen it yet, we’ve got it for you below thanks to the Twitter account of B/R Gridiron.

I have to say, the creative folks and programmers at EA Sports generally do a pretty good job, and this representation of Fields is pretty spot on. If you are like me, you are already planning a way to dominate the rest of the virtual football universe with Fields at the helm.
