Seahawks OTs suffer injuries, Abe Lucas questionable, Charles Cross carted off

The Seattle Seahawks’ offensive line has looked solid all afternoon against the Rams, but have suffered potentially two devastating blows.

The Seattle Seahawks’ offensive line has looked solid all afternoon against the Rams, but have suffered potentially two devastating blows. Both starting tackles have suffered injuries of some sorts.

Right tackle Abe Lucas suffered a knee injury midway through the third quarter, and was designated as questionable to return. Backup Jake Curhan took over for him at the position.

On the blindside, left tackle Charles Cross was seen limping off the field. After a quick stint in the blue medical tent, Cross was carted back to the locker room.

Seahawks Wire will update this story accordingly.

Former Seahawks RB Ricky Watters to raise 12th Man flag

From 1998 until his retirement in 2001, Watters dominated defenses on the ground in Seattle.

One of the great gameday traditions in all of the NFL is the raising of the 12th Man flag before Seattle Seahawks home games. Enshrined in the south end zone of Lumen Field, former Seahawks greats or other Seattle legends are typically given the honor.

On Sunday, the latest in a long line of flag raisers will be given to former Seahawks running back Ricky Watters. From 1998 until his retirement in 2001, Watters dominated defenses on the ground in Seattle.

During Watters’ first three years with the Seahawks, the former Notre Dame star rushed for over a thousand yards and scored at least five touchdowns. Watters was a mainstay for Seattle in the late 90’s, which is only fitting he is the first flag raiser of the year the throwbacks are returning.

The Seahawks kick off at 1:25 against the Los Angeles Rams to start the regular season. Be sure to follow @TheSeahawksWire on Twitter for live updates before, during and after the game.

Seahawks Week 1 injury report: 2 players ruled out

Happy first Blue Friday of the year, 12’s!

Happy first Blue Friday of the year, 12’s! With the NFL officially kicking off last night in Kansas City, we are merely hours away from Seahawks football being back. Seattle will start their 2023 campaign at Lumen Field like they did last year.

Fortunately for the Seahawks, Friday’s injury report looks a lot better than it did on Thursday. The good news is a few key starters do not have game time designations. Running back Kenneth Walker III appeared on the list in limited action at practice, but is set to be fine for the game. Rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been a full participant and is in a similar boat as Walker.

Unfortunately, we’re at the part of the season when players are now being officially ruled out.

Cooper Kupp officially ruled out against Seahawks

Seattle caught two lucky breaks when they faced the Rams without Cooper Kupp in either game last year, and this trend will continue

The Seattle Seahawks caught two lucky breaks when they faced the Rams without star wide receiver Cooper Kupp in either game last year, and it looks like this trend will continue for a third-straight meeting. The Super Bowl LVI MVP has been dealing with a hamstring issue, causing him to be day-to-day.

Unfortunately, this injury setback is going to cost Kupp a Week 1 debut for the 2023 season. Rams head coach Sean McVay has officially ruled his star out for Sunday’s game.

Injuries are horrible, and as previously mentioned, I don’t like seeing my former Eastern Washington classmate missing time. When healthy, Kupp has proven himself to easily be the most productive receiver in the league. But I do recognize this is another lucky break for the Seahawks, especially in a secondary that won’t have Jamal Adams and perhaps not even Devon Witherspoon.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba set to play Week 1 vs Rams

JSN being back so quickly and able to play is inspiring, but one can’t help but wonder if he is genuinely ready.

When fans of the Seattle Seahawks got the news first round rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had wrist surgery, there was an understandable sense of disappointment. The idea of waiting to see the splashiest first round pick in recent memory – but also one that filled a need – longer than expected and dealing with injury was a bit deflating.

However, it appears the wait won’t be much longer at all. According to head coach Pete Carroll, JSN is on track to play in Week 1 as the Seahawks host the visiting Los Angeles Rams.

This is both exciting and eye-brow raising. The idea JSN is back so quickly and able to play is inspiring, but one can’t help but wonder if he is genuinely ready. We all know players want to come back from injury faster than their bodies will allow, such as Russell Wilson in 2021 with his hand injury. It was clear he was still being hampered even during his return.

Or perhaps JSN truly is built differently. As Carroll noted, he is not one to be denied. Fingers crossed JSN is ready to go, or at the very least the team does not feel the need to push him any more than they need to do so.

49ers DE Nick Bosa becomes highest paid defensive player in NFL history

Any faint hopes of Bosa no longer being a 49er are now dashed

Every summer brings a training camp holdout story, as a star is in search of a new contract. Such has been the case with San Francisco’s elite defensive end Nick Bosa. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year sat out of 49ers training camp in hopes of a record-setting extension. It appears his efforts have paid off, literally.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, San Francisco has made Bosa a historically wealthy man.

Bosa has certainly proven he is worth the investment. In three of his four years in the league, Bosa has qualified for the Pro Bowl. The only exception was his injury shortened 2020 season. In what has essentially been three years of NFL action, the former Ohio State Buckeye has 43 career sacks, earned a spot on the All Pro roster last year, and I’ve already mentioned the whole “Defensive Player of the Year” aspect.

Unfortunately, this dashes any faint hopes fans of the Seattle Seahawks might’ve had with Bosa potentially no longer being in the division. Rumors swirled, as they often do, about Bosa potentially being traded away if the two sides could not come to terms. Instead, it appears Bosa will be in the City by the Bay for the foreseeable future.

Thankfully, the Seahawks have Abe Lucas and Charles Cross.

Studs and duds from Seahawks 19-15 Preseason Week 3 loss

It was a mostly uneventful game, at least compared to their last two surprisingly thrilling wins, but Seattle did make it interesting late.

The Seattle Seahawks closed out the 2023 preseason with a 19-15 loss to the Green Bay Packers on the road. Seattle improved from their abysmal 0-3 record last year by going 2-1 in their exhibition games.

It was a mostly uneventful game, at least compared to their last two surprisingly thrilling wins, but Seattle did make it interesting late.

While ultimately the third and final preseason game is rather pointless, there still were those who stood out – both positively and negatively – as players try to make the final cut. With that being said, here are three studs and one dud.

Report: Vikings WR Jordan Addison pleads guilty to a lesser charge

Vikings WR Jordan Addison has reportedly plead guilty to a lesser charge stemming from his July 20 citation.

According to numerous reports, Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison has agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge for his July 20 arrest.

ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reported that Addison will agree to a misdemeanor speeding charge. As a result of the agreement, Addison will pay a total of $686 in fees and fines, and his second charge of reckless driving will be dismissed.

Addison was originally cited by a Minnesota State Patrol officer on July 20 for driving 140 mph on a St. Paul freeway. He was charged with reckless driving and speeding.

“I made a mistake and used poor judgment,” Addison said in a subsequent statement. “I recognize and own that. I am going to learn from this and not repeat the behavior. I am truly sorry.”

Addison was selected by the Vikings with the 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Although he’s just a rookie, the Vikings will likely expect Addison to contribute immediately, especially after the Vikings chose to release veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen.

Seahawks rookie WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba to have wrist surgery

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it a thousand more: the worst part of sports are injuries.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it a thousand more: the worst part of sports are injuries. The NFL preseason is a breeding ground for them, and unfortunately, the Seattle Seahawks are dealing with one to a player they definitely did not want to see end up hurt.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, first round rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is underdoing wrist surgery in Philadelphia. The hope is he can still be ready for the regular season, but he did suffer an injury during Seattle’s second preseason game.

This is certainly a brutal development, especially after a strong performance against the Cowboys where he hauled in all three passes for 58 yards. The Seahawks drafted JSN in the first round because they needed legitimate depth at wide receiver behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

However, the NFL is a “next man up” league. JSN at no risk to not have a roster spot, but his absence does open the door a little further for other players at the position to make the final cut. One such suiter who has been making quite the case lately is undrafted rookie out of UCLA Jake Bobo. In both games – on offense and special teams – Bobo has made a notable impact.

Update:

Coach Pete Carroll says JSN fractured his wrist and could miss the next 3-4 weeks.
