Hypothetical NBA trade has former Alabama stars joining forces

Collin Sexton and Brandon Miller on the same team? See why some believe it’s a possibility.

The NBA has a handful of talented stars who were once standouts for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Whether it be lottery picks or second-round selections that worked their way onto the court, the league is starting to feel the Tide’s presence.

Collin Sexton, of the Utah Jazz, and Brandon Miller, of the Charlotte Hornets, were two fan favorites in Tuscaloosa during their collegiate days. Both being one-and-done players, they had an immense impact on the program in their respective single seasons.

Sexton played under former head coach Avery Johnson, while Miller was one of the biggest recruiting victories for current head coach Nate Oats. The two NBA standouts have never been teammates, but they are one trade away from changing that.

Jack Simone of Swarm and Sting recently put together a few trades the Hornets should explore as the 2024 NBA draft approaches.

With the No. 6 overall pick, Charlotte may look to leverage that as a trade piece to land a player with experience to guide the young, but talented, franchise to success.

Simone proposes the Hornets send the No. 6 pick, a protected future first-round pick and Davis Bertans in exchange for Sexton and the No. 10 overall pick from the Jazz.

“Throughout the course of his career, Sexton has made a name for himself as a hard-nosed player who always gives his all when he’s on the court. The Hornets could use a guy like that.

“He’s a bit undersized, but with the constant energy he brings to the court, he could help Charles Lee transform how the Hornets play on that end of the floor.”

There’s no indication that this trade is impending, but it is interesting to consider it as a possibility, especially as experts believe that numerous trades are inevitable as the draft approaches.

JD Davison is an NBA champion!

On Monday night the Boston Celtics took down the Dallas Mavericks to win the 2024 NBA Finals in five games, and now former Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball star [autotag]JD Davison[/autotag] is an NBA champion.

Davison was a second-round selection by the Celtics in the 2022 NBA draft and although his minutes in the NBA have been limited, he has made a name for himself playing for Boston’s G League team the Maine Celtics.

Davison averaged 21.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the floor. Davison started all 28 of the games that he played. He could not play during Boston’s postseason run as a two-way player. Recent 2024 NBA mock draft features Mark Sears

Is Mark Sears NBA-bound? One 2024 NBA mock draft predicts he will go to an annual title contender.

Alabama Crimson Tide basketball guard Mark Sears is going through the NBA draft process, but can still return to the college ranks if he chooses to by May 29. He recently stated that he’s “all in” on the draft, but there’s no way to be sure whether or not he’s NBA-bound.

Sears had the best season of his four-year college career in the 2023-2024 season. He shot 51% from the field, averaged 21.5 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game and four assists per game.

In a recent 2024 NBA mock draft published by The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, Sears lands with the Milwaukee Bucks at No. 33 overall.

“Sears is a smaller guard who would be surrounded by giants on the Bucks, which could be a perfect fit for him to provide a spark as an apprentice behind Damian Lillard,” writes O’Connor.

This prediction puts Sears at the beginning of the second round, which is a respectable draft position. Though the first round would be preferred, this may be an opportunity too good for Sears to pass up.

Only a few days remain for Sears to make a permanent decision. Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball news

Herbert Jones finishes fifth in NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting

The Alabama basketball legend is one of the top defenders in the NBA

Former Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball star Herbert Jones finished fifth in the Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting according to an NBA press release.

Jones is best known for his uncanny ability to guard all five positions for the New Orleans Pelicans and is widely regarded as the best perimeter defender in the NBA.

Each player who finished ahead of Jones in the voting is a 7-foot rim protector which allows them to collect gawdy stats. Jones on the other hand is required to defend multiple positions and match up against his opponent’s best player more times than not.

Congratulations to Herb on his incredible achievements in the NBA.

Former Alabama Basketball guard Aaron Estrada receives invite to G-League Elite Camp

Former Alabama basketball guard Aaron Estrada became the second member of the Crimson Tide to receive an invite to the G-League Elite Camp.

On Monday, former Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball guard Aaron Estrada received an invite to attend the G-League Elite Camp. He will be the second member of the Crimson Tide to attend the camp. The first player that was invited from the Crimson Tide was forward Jarin Stevenson.

Forty-four prospects for the 2024 NBA draft will participate in two scrimmages in Chicago. Oftentimes, if a prospect performs well enough, they will receive an invite to attend the NBA draft’s annual combine. Two players who have participated in the G-League Elite Camp and have gone on to have successful NBA careers are Jose Alvarado and Terrance Mann.

Estrada will be one of the prospects that will have an opportunity to showcase his skill set in the Windy City. Estrada spent one season at Alabama after making stops at Oregon, St. Peter’s, and Hofstra. During his one season in Tuscaloosa, Estrada made 37 starts. He averaged 13.4 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, and 4.6 assists per game.

Estrada will look to make a name for himself with hopes of receiving an invite to the NBA draft combine. Alabama guard Mark Sears will represent the Crimson Tide at the NBA draft combine.

Brandon Miller shocks arena with dominant slam dunk, continues to impress

Former Alabama forward Brandon Miller brought jaws to the floor after making a posterizing dunk in the first half of the Hornets-Hawks game.

Alabama Crimson Tide fans are well aware of what former Tide forward Brandon Miller is able to do on the hardwood. On Wednesday night, he put his skillset to display. During the first half of the Charlotte Hornets-Atlanta Hawks game, the star rookie sent fans into a frenzy on a posterizing dunk over Hawks forward Bruno Fernando.

Miller finished the night with 27 points, three rebounds, and two assists. He also shot 9/17 from the floor and 5/11 from beyond the arc. His production helped lead the Hornets to a 115-114 victory atop the Hawks.

Unfortunately for Miller, he has not had much of a supporting cast this season. The Hornets have struggled to create a consistent rotation and have had to deal with multiple injuries this season. Needless to say, Miller has been more than dependable for the Hornets.

Miller will look to close out the season on a strong note heading into the offseason with the Hornets. Two games are remaining on the Hornets’ schedule. Those two games will come on the road against the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis signs three-year deal with Sacramento Kings

Former Alabama guard Keon Ellis and the Sacramento Kings have agreed on a three-year contract

Recently, the Alabama men’s basketball program has had success with sending guards to the NBA. That success has translated to the next level for one guard in particular.

On Friday morning, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Sacramento Kings and Keon Ellis have agreed to terms on a three-year contract. The terms of the deal have not been released at this time.

Previously, Ellis was on a two-way contract with the Kings. This means that Ellis was simultaneously rostered on both the NBA team and the G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings.

Now, he will officially be a part of the Kings’ active roster. So far, Ellis has averaged 11.9 minutes per game and 3.8 points per game. The best game of his professional career came this season against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former Alabama guard scored 17 points, reeled in six rebounds, and dished out three assists.

Currently, the Kings sit at No. 7 in the Western Conference. The addition of Ellis as a full-time member of the Kings bench should be a boost. His ability to knock down threes and play elite defense should see him contribute in a big way down the stretch.

Former Alabama PG Kira Lewis Jr. headed to Toronto Raptors in three-team deal

On Wednesday, former Alabama point guard Kira Lewis Jr. was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Toronto Raptors as a part of a three-team deal.

On Wednesday afternoon, a three-team deal was agreed upon by the Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, and New Orleans Pelicans. According to ESPN senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, former Kira Lewis Jr. was traded from the Pelicans to the Raptors as a part of the trade.

Lewis Jr. has spent the past four seasons as a part of the Pelicans organization. He was drafted No. 13 overall in the 2020 NBA draft by the Pelicans.

This appears to be a good opportunity for Lewis Jr. The native of Meridianville, Alabama played sparingly during his four seasons with the Pelicans. With the Raptors struggling this season, it could be a promising move for both parties moving forward. Lewis Jr. could provide some valuable minutes in the Raptors backcourt.
