Army (2-0) vs Cincinnati (1-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Army Will Win

With the exception of Clemson, who has been sharper so far out of the gate than Army?

The Black Knights were brilliant in a dominant 42-0 performance over Middle Tennessee, and they rocked ULM 37-7 in a game that wasn’t even that close.

How tight are they? They’ve owned the time of possession battle, keeping it for over 36 minutes a game so far, they’re converting 71% of their third down chances, and they’re doing what they do with the nation’s leading ground game averaging 390 yards per outing.

Week 4 Expert Picks: College Football

Why Cincinnati Will Win

The Bearcats have the power to take Army right out of its gameplan.

How do you stop Army? You hit it with long, sustained drives and don’t let the offense take control with their crushing marches. UC has the offensive front to pound away on an Army defensive front that hasn’t been tested yet.

On the other side, the linebackers might still need some grooming, but 15 of the top 17 tacklers are back from last year, and it showed with a dominant defensive performance in the win over Austin Peay.

The defensive line might be the best in the AAC. Stop fullback Jakobi Buchanan from establishing himself up the middle, and everyone else should be able to clean things up.

Week 3 Expert Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Cincinnati will pull off the win, but it’s going to sweat it out for the full 60 minutes.

The Army offense is humming. Granted, playing Middle Tennessee and Austin Peay isn’t any big deal, but the Knights pitched two perfect games, and now the Bearcats have to deal with the precision.

Veteran QB Desmond Ridder, along with a good-enough game from the UC defensive front, will overcome an Army 300-yard rushing day.

Army (1-0) vs ULM (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why ULM Will Win

ULM will score.

If that doesn’t sound like much, ask Middle Tennessee after it was blanked by Army 42-0.

The offense doesn’t have Caleb Evans around anymore at quarterback, but the receiving corps is full of guys who can stretch the field with a good uptempo attack that knows how to spread things out.

The linebacking corps has just enough speed and athleticism to keep with the Army runners on the outside, but …

CFN Preview 2020: Every Team Preview, Rankings, Predictions

Why Army Will Win

ULM doesn’t do that defense thing all that well.

It’s run defense was an issue throughout last season – giving up 200 yards or more in 11 of the 12 games – including a 254-yard, four-touchdown day in a 51-29 loss to Georgia Southern and its option attack.

Army was razor-sharp last week with the offense looking in midseason form, hitting Middle Tennessee for 340 yards and five touchdowns as it controlled the game throughout.

The Knights had the ball for well over 35 minutes, including a 99-yard scoring drive that took over 12 minutes. Expect a whole lot of long, grinding, effective marches.

CFN College Football Experts Picks, Week 2

What’s Going To Happen

It’s not going to be as ugly as the Middle Tennessee game, but Army will do enough to own the game after an entertaining first half. ULM will get a few points to keep the Knights pushing.

2020 CFN Top 30 Independent Players

2020 Preseason CFN Independent Offensive Player of the Year

OT Liam Eichenberg, Sr. Notre Dame

OKAY, fine … so the Fighting Irish offensive tackle probably won’t turn out to be the best offensive star among the independent teams – but if he isn’t, he won’t be far off.

A few Notre Dame options like QB Ian Book or RB Jafar Armstrong might be flashier options, and don’t sleep on what Liberty RB Joshua Mack could do with a bigger role. Eichenberg, though, might just be the first draft pick off the board among all the options.

[vertical-gallery id=516414]

He’s soon going to be some NFL team’s starting left tackle.

The 6-6, 305-pounder might not be as big as some next-level types might like, but he’s great as a pass protector and he can move. He’ll also be one of the key parts to make a great-looking Irish offense go.

2020 Preseason CFN Independent Defensive Player of the Year

LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Sr.

S Kyle Hamilton made a whole lot of huge plays last year and could easily be in this spot, and statistically, others – like New Mexico State’s Rashie Hodge and BYU DT Khyiris Tonga – make a whole lot of noise.

Owusu-Koramoah is the best of the Irish defensive bunch coming into the season.

While he’s only 6-1 and 216 pounds, he’s quickly rising up the draft charts as an undersized-but-fast outside linebacker who flash into the backfield. Part safety, part outside linebacker, he made 80 tackles with 5.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, and now he and Hamilton will spend the year wrecking a whole lot of gameplans.

Obviously, no one knows what’s going to happen to the 2020 college football season. We’ll take a general look at where each team stands – doing it without spring ball to go by – while crossing our fingers that we’ll all have some well-deserved fun this fall. Hoping you and yours are safe and healthy.

5. College Football News Preview 2020: Army Black Knights Offense 3 Things To Know

– For this whole thing to work, the running game has to go beyond being very, very good. Army was third in the nation in rushing, and it wasn’t good enough.

By any reasonable standard, rushing for 3,863 yards and 45 touchdowns in a year is special, but that’s all Army does. The entire formula is based around controlling the tempo and games, and not hitting 4,000 yards on the ground for the first time in four years matters.

Leading rusher and quarterback Kelvin Hopkins is gone, as are running backs Kell Walker and Connor Slompka. But it’s Army – there are more options.

CFN in 60 Video: Army Black Knights Preview
[jwplayer St1WQoka]

It all starts at quarterback with 5-9, 185-pound junior Jabari Laws the likely replacement for Hopkins. Laws finished fourth on the team with 484 yards and four scores, and 6-1, 185-pound senior Christian Anderson ran for 429 yards and four touchdowns. There are eight options to choose from with some of the other quarterbacks being used in other ways.

Who’s going to take over for the 240-pound Slomka at fullback? 5-11, 230-pound Sandon McCoy was third on the team with 576 yards and led the way with ten rushing scores. He’s the main man now to pound it up the gut, and 235-pound junior Cade Bernard is back.  On the outside, senior Artice Hobbs is the leading returning tailback, and the gaps will fill in around him.

The offensive line has a ton of turnover, but that’s normal – the Black Knight offense has a way of building up the talent up front so they’re ready as upperclassmen. 300-pound Peyton Reeder is a good-sized blocker at one guard spot, and 290-pound senior JB Hunter is a solid veteran at center.

6-2, 208-pound Camden Harrison caught 25 passes for 433 yards and three score, making him the program’s top receiver for a season since 2013. 6-3, 235-pound Michael Roberts is also back after catching five passes as more of a short-range target.

Army Football Schedule 2020 Prediction, Best Case Scenario

10-2: The Knights can’t quite handle Oklahoma, but they roll past everyone else in the first two months with a great run against the MAC. They get by Miami University, Eastern Michigan and Buffalo, and they use the open date to get past Air Force in the final home game of the year. They win two of the three November road games, and of course, they beat Navy.

Army Football Schedule 2020 Prediction, Worst Case Scenario

5-7: Things haven’t quite turned around yet, and it shows in a stunning loss at Rice. With a loss at Miami University, it’s a rough start that doesn’t get a whole lot better with a loss to Air Force to kick off November. With four straight games away from Michie Stadium to close things out, they lose at Tulane, get stunned by either UMass or UConn, and they lose to Navy to miss out on a bowl game.

Army (4-6) vs. VMI (4-6) Game Preview

If want in on this week’s games, sign up with BetMGM

What’s Going To Happen

Do you like the all-run, no-pass team, or the reverse?

VMI and QB Reece Udinski wing it all over the yard for close to 300 yards per game. It’s not leading to any wins considering the defense can’t stop anyone, but the Keydets managed to beat the option-running Citadel team that beat Georgia Tech.

The run defense, though is about to get hammered for close to 400 yards.

VMI isn’t into the whole time of possession thing, and that’s where the Army offense steps in. It’ll hold the ball for close to 40 minutes on long march after long march for its second win in a row.

Because the Knights are dealing with a second FCS team – they beat Morgan State earlier in the year – they’ll still have to win at Hawaii and beat Navy to get bowl eligible.

Going to Hawaii will have to serve as the bowl appearance.

It’s the final home game of the year for the Knights, and despite giving up close to 300 passing yards – it’ll be an empty-the-bench fourth quarter.
