This crazy stat makes the AFC East look very bad (except the Bills)
The Buffalo Bills are sitting pretty.
The rest of the AFC East is not.
We can talk about passing yards, points scored and more. But in the NFL there is only one that matters: Wins.
The Bills have six… just like everyone else… combined.
That’s right, heading into Week 9, the Bills are 6-2 overall, meanwhile, the rest of the AFC East with the Miami Dolphins (2-5), New England Patriots (2-6) and New York Jets (2-6) only total that amount if you add them all together.
That could all change as early as “Thursday Night Football” as the Jets play… but that’s against the 6-2 Houston Texans…
Let’s see how long the Bills can hang on to having more wins than everyone else. Of course, with the Dolphins on deck for Buffalo on Sunday, the Bills can at least have that portion of it in their own hands.
(And for those curious… the Pats face the 1-6 Tennessee Titans…)
AFC East roundup: What happened in the division in Week 8
The Buffalo Bills defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8 by a score of 31-10. With the win, the Bills remain atop the AFC East with a record of 6-2.
Like Buffalo, the rest of the AFC East was in action. How did each fare last week, and how does the division stack up right now?
Here is a quick recap of what went down in Week 8 with the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and New England Patriots:
Miami Dolphins
The good news for the Dolphins is that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned to action in Week 8. The bad news is that it wasn’t enough to fend off a streaky Arizona Cardinals team. The Dolphins lost a heartbreaker at home, 28-27.
Tagovailoa had been out since Week 2 when he suffered his latest concussion. He looked pretty good in his return and Miami looked like a competitive ball club again. They scored 27 points after they went the previous four games without scoring more than 15 points.
The Dolphins are now 2-5 on the year and have to travel to Buffalo in Week 9.
New York Jets
The Jets lost to the Patriots on the road in Week 8, 25-22. It’s been a rough stretch of football for the Jets. They have now lost five in a row after starting the year 2-1.
Trading for wide receiver Davante Adams and firing head coach Robert Saleh was New York’s best attempt at turning things around. It hasn’t worked yet. With the new faces, they’ve lost their last two.
The Jets are now 2-6 and are backed up to the ledge of their 2024 season. They need to go on a historic run to not fall off the cliff. They will host the 6-2 Houston Texans in Week 9.
New England Patriots
The Patriots had a great day at Gillette Stadium in Week 8. They beat the Jets on a rushing touchdown from Rhamondre Stevenson with just 22 seconds left.
Unfortunately, rookie quarterback Drake Maye was forced to leave the game due to a concussion. Veteran Jacoby Brissett took over early in the second quarter and led the offense to victory.
With the win, the Patriots improve to 2-6. Maye’s health will be something to monitor as he navigates through concussion protocol this week. His status is up in the air for Week 9 when the Patriots will head to Tennessee to face the 1-6 Titans.
AFC East roundup: What happened in the division in Week 7
The Buffalo Bills defeated the Tennessee Titans in Week 7 by a score of 34-10. With the win, the Bills remain atop the AFC East with a record of 5-2.
Like Buffalo, the rest of the AFC East was in action. How did each fare last week, and how does the division stack up right now?
Here is a quick recap of what went down in Week 7 with the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and New England Patriots:
Miami Dolphins
Going into their Week 7 game against the Indianapolis Colts, the Dolphins were still without starting quarterback Tua Tgovailoa. To make matters worse, their backup QB was injured in the game.
Tyler Huntley left the game with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Tim Boyle. Neither QB was effective as Dolphins wide receivers only caught four total passes. The Dolphins lost 16-10 and dropped to 2-4 on the year.
New York Jets
The Jets made headlines last week after trading for WR Davante Adams. But, even rekindling the relationship between him and Aaron Rodgers couldn’t get the team on track.
The Jets lost 37-15 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on ‘Sunday Night Football’. Rodgers threw two interceptions and running back Breece Hall only averaged 3.1 yards per carry. The loss has the Jets sitting at a disappointing 2-5 record after many in the offseason predicted they would make a run at the division title.
New England Patriots
The Patriots had to travel to London in Week 7 to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. They had a disappointing flight home after a 32-16 loss.
Their defense couldn’t make stops and their offensive line couldn’t protect their young QB Drake Maye. They allowed 32 points to the Jags who average 20 per game. The loss drops the Pats to 1-6 on the year.
After loss to Bills, Jets trade for All-Pro Davante Adams
The New York Jets were not very happy with the way they played against the Buffalo Bills on “Monday Night Football,” evidently…
Only hours after the 23-20 win for the Bills (4-2), the Jets (2-4) have landed All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Adams, 32, heading to New York had long been speculated. Adams wanted out of Vegas and reports indicated he wanted to play with one of his former quarterbacks… namely Aaron Rodgers.
He got his wish.
The Jets sent a conditional third-round selection to the Raiders for Adams. It can move to a second rounder if certain terms are met.
There was some hope for fans in Buffalo that the Bills could pull off this exact trade… but it didn’t happen and never really seemed likely.
The Bills were strapped financially compared to their AFC East rivals. Adams’ acquisition could quickly make the Jets a contender again, but with their two games below .500 mark now… it remains to be seen if Gang Green can pull themselves out of such a hole.

AFC East roundup: What happened in the division in Week 5
The Buffalo Bills lost in Week 5 to the Houston Texans, 23-20. Despite the second consecutive road loss, the Bills remain atop the AFC East with their record of 3-2.
Like Buffalo, the rest of the AFC East was in action. How did each fare last week, and how does the division stack up right now?
Here is a quick recap of all the action that went down in the AFC East with the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and New England Patriots:
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins outlasted the Patriots in Week 5 by a score of 15-10 at Gillette Stadium. The Dolphins (2-3) have already played four different quarterbacks this year: Tua Tagovailoa, Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle, and Tyler Huntley.
Given these circumstances, 2-3 doesn’t look so bad through five weeks. Still, this is a team that had high hopes of taking over the division in 2024. They came up just short last year in the AFC East race, and that may be as close as they get in a while if Tagovailoa remains out due to his health.
New England Patriots
After the 15-10 loss at home to the Dolphins, the Patriots sit at 1-4 on the year and will have to face the 4-1 Texans in Week 6.
There are rumblings that rookie quarterback Drake Maye might start. The team is already desperate to try to find some juice on offense after five games. Maye has the potential to provide some juice, but his rookie year will most likely see some struggles given the supporting cast he’ll have on offense.
New York Jets
The New York Jets had a tall task in Week 5. They had to travel to London and take on the undefeated Minnesota Vikings. They lost the game, 23-17, and fell to 2-3 on the year. The game wasn’t the only thing they lost this week.
On Tuesday morning, the Jets announced the firing of head coach Robert Saleh. This was a shock to just about everyone around the NFL given it has only been five games. The Jets seem to have no patience in the Aaron Rodgers era. They want to win right now. We’ll see how they look with interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich (defensive coordinator) when they host the Bills in Week 6 on “Monday Night Football.”
Jets fire head coach Robert Saleh ahead of prime-time clash with Bills
The New York Jets will not be under the watch of Robert Saleh when the Buffalo Bills face them in their upcoming Week 6 clash.
Ahead of the Bills (3-2) and Jets (2-3) doing battle on “Monday Night Football,” New York has decided to fire the head coach. It was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Saleh, who was hired in 2021 and had a 20-36 overall record.
It had appeared in recent weeks that Saleh and Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers were not on the same page. Most recently, New York lost to the Minnesota Vikings in a 23-17 final out in London.
Following Saleh’s dismissal defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has been named interim head coach.
#Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel: #Bills own the AFC East:
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel praised the Buffalo Bills during Wednesday’s press conference leading up to the Thursday night divisional game.
McDaniel was asked if the AFC East is still the Bills’ division, and the third-year head coach simply replied, “Yes.”
He added, “If you want to do something in this league, generally you can’t skip over the much-mandated step to win your division. And there’s one team that’s won the division consecutive years… they own the division until someone takes it from them.”
It’s always refreshing to hear unbiased truth from members of opposing teams. If McDaniel was in the NFC, Bills fans would probably be more fond of him.
With that being said, this year is projected to be a close race to win the AFC East, much like last year. In 2023, the Bills needed to win their final five games and needed a couple of crucial Miami losses down the stretch to steal the division in Week 18. It was Buffalo’s fourth-straight season taking the AFC East crown.
This year should be similar, with many thinking the Jets have a chance to win it as well. But, as McDaniel said, it’s the Bills’ division until it isn’t.
Judon was in the final year of his contract and failed to agree to terms with the Patriots on an extension, despite being offered a new deal over the summer according to Patriots Wire.
Judon spent the past three seasons in New England after starting his career with the Baltimore Ravens.
Judon was injured four games into last season but still put up four sacks. In 33 games with the Patriots, he had an impressive 32 total sacks.
While a talented player, the Buffalo Bills did traditionally handle Judon well. He only had one sack against the Bills in his four games as a Patriot against Buffalo.
Regardless, the Bills won’t be upset about Judon leaving the division.
Oddsmakers: #Bills enter 2024 offseason as slight AFC East favorites:
NFL players have packed their bags for some well deserved time off but a lot has happened since the last time any of them played in a game.
The Buffalo Bills specifically have had plenty of offseason action in recent weeks and months. Playmakers on both sides of the ball have departed the team.
Even with all the roster turnover, oddsmakers still see the Bills as the favorite to win a fifth-straight AFC East title.
According to DraftKings, Buffalo is the favorite in the division as of now.
DraftKing’s full odds for who will win the AFC East in 2024 as we sit in the thick of the offseason can be found below:
The Miami Dolphins have added to an already stacked wide receiver room which could end up being a problem for the Buffalo Bills.
According to our friends at Dolphins Wire, free agent Odell Beckham Jr. has signed with the team.
The 31-year-old has agreed to a one-year deal worth as much as $8.25 million. Just $3M of that total is base salary, according to multiple reports.
Beckham returned last season with the Baltimore Ravens after suffering an ACL tear during the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory. Beckham’s comeback saw him grab 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
Beckham has previously been connected with the Bills as a free agent, specifically when pass rusher Von Miller openly hoped he would sign for the team.
That never happened and now will not in 2023. Due to the team’s well-noted salary cap issues this offseason, the Bills would have been unlikely to match such a number that the Dolphins signed Beckham to.
Beckham joins a Miami offense with the likes of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle already at the top of the depth chart.
