Buckeye Battle Cry series: Best Ohio State football player to wear jersey No. 6

We are up to jersey No. 6 in our effort to debate and identify the best Ohio State football player to ever don each jersey number.

Not a lot of options here, at least not of the all-timers variety. Typically when you think of a football number, No. 6 isn’t exactly a number players fight over.

But nonetheless, I’m going with Cie Grant because he was one of the most productive. He actually started his Buckeye career as a corner, but it didn’t quite work out. He made a decision to put some weight on and convert to being a linebacker.

Turned out to be the right decision as he racked up 71 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and four sacks.

Of course, his name is remembered for blitzing Ken Dorsey and forcing an incomplete pass to clinch the 2002 National Championship in double overtime. I still remember that play from when I was nine years old. Thank you Dad for letting me staying up and watch the game on a school night.
