Brett Brown talks about guidelines for coaching while in practice

Sixers coach Brett Brown is ready to take on the challenge of coaching in the Orlando bubble.

The NBA needs to have strict guidelines in place to ensure the Orlando bubble is as safe as possible, but as the league prepares to restart, practices will have somewhat of a normal feel to it.

Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown spoke to media on a Zoom webinar Saturday ahead of the team’s first practice. He talked about practice guidelines, along with the rules outside of practice.

“When I walk through the gym door, in this environment, except for this situation that I’m looking at you all at, we’re required to wear masks everywhere we go,” Brown said. “When I walk through and open the gym door, I’m able to take my mask off and coach like I would.”

Brown spoke on the importance of getting a sense for how the environment will be.

“I believe it will be per normal in relation to no masks and me being able to look at Ben (Simmons) or Jo (Joel Embiid) and talk to them,” Brown said. “Personally, I feel like it’s not normal. You’re going to have to feel different things through of how you deliver a message and how you coach a team again. And I’m excited to be able to do that.”

Coaching is one of the purest forms of teaching in the world. It’s about adapting to different circumstances. While this situation is unprecedented, it’s going to be interesting to see how Brown and other coaches adjust.

With the NBA being on hiatus since the middle of March, the Sixers haven’t played since March 11, when they defeated the Detroit Pistons 124-106.

The Sixers will play their first seeding game Aug. 1 against the Indiana Pacers.
