BOOM: Texas basketball lands Oral Roberts transfer G Max Abmas

Rodney Terry and Texas basketball make a splash in the transfer portal.

One of the top transfers available in college basketball is heading to Austin, Texas.

Former Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas announced his commitment to Texas on Thursday night. He chose the Longhorns over Big 12 rival Kansas State and others. Abmas is a two-time Summit League Player of the Year, taking home the award in both 2021 and 2023.

Texas’ new guard is a natural scorer, averaging over 20 points per game in his last three seasons at Oral Roberts. He established himself as a star in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, guiding the No. 15-seeded Golden Eagles to the Sweet 16.

Expect Abmas to fill a significant role in the Longhorns’ backcourt with Marcus Carr and Sir’Jarbari Rice graduating.

Texas’ 2023 roster is starting to take shape. Abmas joins Virginia transfer Kadin Shedrick as newcomers to join the program. Texas also received news starting forward Dylan Disu is returning for one more season as well.
