How will a preseason without games affect the special teams unit?

Buffalo’s brass loves to talk about how important the special teams unit is on the roster. Preseason games usually give players who are battling for a final roster spot a moment to try and break into the roster via the kick and punt units.

Head coach Sean McDermott and Farwell will need to be creative with seeing which players can make the roster based on their special teams contributions. Interestingly enough, this might have a much larger impact without the live-action during the preseason games. With a limited number of practices in pads during camp, several bubble players will need to show out in multiple aspects of the game just to be considered for the final roster spots. Of all the players on the team’s roster, linebacker Tyler Matakevich is probably the easiest lock as a special teamer. He replaces Julian Stanford, who was a free agent and did not get re-signed by the Bills.
