2017 2020
Ronald Darby Tre’Davious White
Tre’Davious White Levi Wallace
Kevon Seymour Josh Norman
Leonard Johnson EJ Gaines
Charles James Taron Johnson
Bradley Sylve Dane Jackson
Shareece Wright Cam Lewis
Greg Mabin

Advantage: 2020
Looking at the top-two pieces, 2017, as things sit in this chart, might have a comparable top-three grouping. Ronald Darby was good, but didn’t fit in Sean McDermott’s scheme well, so he eventually was traded. Leonard Johnson was a solid nickel cornerback, too. But this comes down to Tre’Davious vs…. Tre’Davious? As a rookie, he was strong, but in 2020 he’s All-Pro Tre. Whoever does not win the battle for the No. 2 cornerback spot next season will also be kept around for some superior depth on the outside here. Nothing with the Josh Norman, Levi Wallace and EJ Gaines all in the same room. And worth noting, Gaines eventually did come to the Bills in 2017 and had perhaps his best season, but that didn’t happen until later in training camp and injuries eventually bit him.
