1989: Don Beebe

This was the second consecutive draft in which the Bills did not make a pick in the first round. In fact, they had to wait until the third round to make a draft announcement in 1989, as the team’s first two picks were dealt as part of the Bennett deal.

The pick:

With the 82nd overall pick, the Bills selected Chadron State wide receiver Don Beebe. In six seasons in Buffalo, Beebe performed modestly, providing a good depth option out wide for quarterback Jim Kelly. He caught 164 passes for 2,537 receiving yards and 18 touchdown receptions. The receiving yards are good for 18th all-time on Buffalo’s receiving list, while the receptions total slots him in at 21st all-time for the Bills.

He was part of the Super Bowl run as well. He did eventually win a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl XXXI. However, Beebe is cemented into Super Bowl lore with his touchdown-saving forced fumble of Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Leon Lett.
