Belief around the league is Sixers won’t pick up option on Shake Milton

Belief around the league is that the Philadelphia 76ers won’t pick up the club option on Shake Milton.

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of trying to retool their roster around the star duo of Joel Embiid and James Harden and in order to do that, there needs to be some tough decisions to be made.

The Sixers currently hold a team option on 4-year guard Shake Milton and as they look to improve their bench and make some changes, there is some belief around the league that the Sixers won’t pick up that option.

Per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer:

The Sixers have a club option of $1.9 million on Milton for next season. However, there’s a belief around the league that the team won’t pick it up.

If that’s the case, it would make sense to try to package him in a trade in order to get something back in return. The problem is, teams don’t want to trade for a player if they believe he could be scooped up as an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Sixers could use an upgrade at the backup point guard spot. Milton has been solid at times, but he has also been down at others. Therefore his time in Philadelphia has been a bit of a roller coaster and the Sixers are looking for more stability to lead the bench unit.

Milton averaged 8.2 points and shot 32.3% from deep in an injury riddled 2021-22 season. He can still be a double-digit scorer, but he hasn’t been on the court long enough to really get himself into a rhythm in recent years.
