It’s the same old story for the Chicago Bears offense, which has struggled to get anything going through the first three games of the 2023 season.
Chicago’s offense ranks 27th in points (15.7), 29th in yards (250), 31st in passing yards (148.3) and quarterback Justin Fields ranks dead last in Total QBR (21.0). It’s been anything but pretty.
But despite the early struggles, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy isn’t concerned and preached patience. In fact, he believes great things are on the way for the offense.
“I think we’re in the process of building something special,” Getsy said Thursday at Halas Hall. “We’re in the phase of it’s Week 3 going into Week 4 and we’re going on to find a way to attack Denver in a completely different way than we did Kansas City. … It’s a 17-week process. It is not a three-week process.”
When looking back at last week’s brutal loss to the Kansas City Chiefs — where the offense managed just 10 points, including a late garbage-time touchdown — Getsy saw opportunities left on the field.
“The thing that jumped out was a few of the details — we felt we had a few opportunities to create,” Getsy said. “There [are] probably seven or eight plays that we felt should have been explosive plays. It was just the lack of particular detail to a number of different situations that were different parts of it. And when you’re playing a really good team like that, you can’t let those opportunities slide by and we did.”
If there’s an opportunity for this Bears offense to finally get on track — or at least show signs of life — it’s against a Denver Broncos defense that just surrendered 70 points to the Miami Dolphins.
