A pair of Tigers lead the way in MLB Pipeline’s draft projections

Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes could lead off next month’s draft.

MLB Pipeline has released its latest projections for the first-round picks in this year’s draft with [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] and [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] leading the way.

Crews is still projected to go as the No. 1 overall pick to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In other sports, when it comes to draft picks, the choice is usually obvious. You go with a position of need or the best player available. In the MLB, there is an added variable. You are only allotted a certain amount of money to try to land all of your draft picks.

Crews is projected to be the first guy off of the board, but if the Pirates can find another player they like that will sign for less money, they may take that guy, instead.

Skenes is projected to be the No. 2 overall pick in the draft to the Washington Nationals, which have a huge need for pitching.

It’s very fitting that the Nationals would pick Skenes up as Tulane coach Jay Uhlman compared Skenes to Stephen Strasburg after Skenes pitched a complete game against the Green Wave to start the Baton Rouge Regional on Friday.
