It’s official, Ryan Day names Kyle McCord QB1 for Ohio State football

QB1 for the Buckeyes has been named #GoBucks

After two weeks of wondering what [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] would do with his quarterbacks, the Buckeye boss announced his decision on Tuesday.

[autotag]Kyle McCord[/autotag] will be the starter going forward with [autotag]Devin Brown[/autotag] in line for playing time. This is the best decision for the team and Day knows it, especially with its biggest game to date on the horizon: Notre Dame.

The Pennsylvania native was great against Youngstown State, completing 14- of-20 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Brown played well against YSU, but was clearly behind McCord in his progression. The team can now focus on an offense that suits McCord’s skill set.

You could see the differences in what was trying to be accomplished when each was given playing time: McCord had more traditional drop back play calls; Brown ran zone read and straight quarterback runs.

Having Brown as a change of pace is a good idea, but you can’t just have him go out there and run the ball every time. I’d like to see a red zone package for him, with some trick plays mixed in.

McCord being named the unquestioned starter will hopefully settle the offense that has been a bit stagnant this season, compared to the last few.
