Texas RB Roschon Johnson declares for NFL draft, will miss Alamo Bowl

Roschon Johnson will be missed on the Forty Acres.

Texas running back Roschon Johnson officially declared for the 2023 NFL draft on Friday.

The do-it-all player for the Longhorns has also opted out of the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29. He finished his collegiate career with 2,190 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns while hauling in 56 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

Although Johnson primarily served as Bijan Robinson’s backup, he was a key leader on and off the field for Texas and was well respected by his teammates and coaching staff.

Tashard Choice’s running back room in Austin appears to still be in strong shape following the departures of Robinson and Johnson. Jonathon Brooks, Jaydon Blue and Cedric Baxter Jr. figure to compete for carries next season alongside Keilan Robinson.
