Former Ohio State cornerback Ryan Watts heading back home to Texas

Steve Sarkisian gets another former Buckeye to commit to the Longhorns via the transfer portal.

Texas Longhorns head coach, Steve Sarkisian is doing his best to build a wall around Texas to keep in-state talent home. But that wall comes with an opening to allow prodigals to return and Sark has signed his second returnee from Ohio State in as many weeks.

Ryan Watts becomes the most recent Buckeye to join the Longhorns, joining Quinn Ewers who went home to the Lone Star State on December 12. Watts wasted no time in the transfer portal, taking less than two weeks to make his decision to return home.

Watts, who hails from Little Elm, Texas, was a four-star prospect in the 2020 class and appeared in 6 games over the course of the past two seasons, collecting two interceptions in mop-up time. The OSU transfer should have every opportunity to earn playing time right away as the Longhorns are losing several defensive backs to graduation.

We can’t fault a kid too much for wanting to return home. Sarkisian seems to be building something special in Austin and clearly, Texas kids want to be part of it.
