Texas quarterback Hudson Card looked the part in his first career start on Saturday.
After a shaky first drive, the Texas offense seemingly moved the ball with ease during their 38-18 win over No. 23 Louisiana in Week 1. Card concluded the contest with 224 passing yards and three total touchdowns.
More importantly, Texas did not turn the ball over. First-year head coach Steve Sarkisian has put an emphasis on protecting the football this offseason, one of the reasons Card was able to secure the starting role over Casey Thompson.
Thompson did play the final quarter and a half against Louisiana, but Card showcased that he’s more than capable of leading this team. He possesses unique arm talent, oftentimes creating windows for receivers. Although his arm is admired most, Card is also deceptively athletic and was rated the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class.
With Sarkisian and Card leading the way, Texas is capable of putting together a special season.
