Football and basketball are the two major revenue producing sports throughout the college landscape.
Each year, College Football News ranks all 130 schools to determine who had the best combination of football and basketball teams. Football carries more weight in these particular rankings as its what drives athletic departments.
Still, some schools care more about basketball, so that’s factored into these rankings as well. If a program won a conference championship, bowl game or made a run in the NCAA Tournament, those successes carried a bit of weight.
For Texas specifically, they weren’t able to compete for a Big 12 title in football, although they only suffered three losses on the season. The Longhorns basketball program surprisingly won the Big 12 Tournament championship, but failed to win a single NCAA Tournament game.
On the flip side, a school like Kansas has one of the worst football teams in the country, but a very solid basketball program. Where would they fall? Spoiler alert: four Big 12 programs landed among the top 25 nationally and three appeared in the top 10.
Here is where every Big 12 school landed in CFN’s Hoops and Helmets rankings for the 2020-2021 cycle.
