It’s no secret it’s a very strong draft class if you’re looking for a quarterback.
Five signal-callers could be selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence appears to be the clear-cut favorite to become the No. 1 overall pick, but it grows uncertain after that.
Will BYU’s Zach Wilson or Ohio State’s Justin Fields be the next quarterback taken off of the board? Could North Dakota State’s Trey Lance be considered among the top three?
It’s unfortunate that Texas’ Sam Ehlinger, who is a very solid quarterback, has been pushed down the list due to the generational talent ahead of him. However, FOX Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt still ranks Ehlinger among his top 10 quarterbacks in this draft class.
Ehlinger landed at No. 8 overall, just ahead of Notre Dame’s Ian Book and Stanford’s Davis Mills. In 2020, Ehlinger totaled 2,566 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games.
Although the four-year starter at Texas seemingly impressed scouts at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, it’s likely he will be selected before Day 3. Kellen Mond (Texas A&M), Kyle Trask (Florida), Mac Jones (Alabama), Trey Lance (North Dakota State), Zach Wilson (BYU), Justin Fields (Ohio State) and Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) are expected to be taken off the board ahead of Ehlinger.
The 2021 NFL draft will begin on Thursday, April 29 at 7 p.m. CDT.
