Two Longhorns land in round two of Draft Wire’s latest NFL mock draft

Draft Wire editor Luke Easterling pegged two former Longhorns in the second round of his latest NFL mock draft.

Draft Wire editor Luke Easterling released an updated two-round NFL mock draft shortly after the Super Bowl concluded.

Over the last several months, many national media outlets pegged former Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi and pass rusher Joseph Ossai as first-round prospects.

As we inch closer towards the 2021 NFL draft, it appears Cosmi’s draft stock is starting to slip. Ossai’s draft stock has typically ranged from a late first-round pick to a late second-round pick, therefore his projections have varied depending on which mock draft that you view.

This could, of course, change over the next two months, but Easterling now projects Cosmi and Ossai to land in round two.

Texas’ star left tackle was taken off of the board with the No. 34 overall pick to the New York Jets. Versatile athlete Joseph Ossai, listed as an EDGE prospect, landed at No. 55 overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr., Cosmi has lacked consistency.

He’s one of those polarizing guys. If you see him in certain games, you like his skills as a left tackle, played right tackle as well, and others where he’s had trouble in those 1-on-1 situations. He’s going to be one of those guys teams may roll the dice for earlier … it will be a lot of differences of opinion but somebody is going to take him.

In Tony Pauline’s latest big board for Pro Football Network, Ossai was listed as his 27th overall prospect. The 2021 draft class lacks a true standout pass rusher and Ossai could continue to improve his stock with an impressive Pro Day in Austin.

The 2021 NFL Draft is slated to begin on Thursday, April 29.
