It’s been quite the roller coaster season for the Texas football program.
The Longhorns started off strong with a dominant 59-3 win over UTEP in the season opener then seemingly struggled with their first three conference opponents. After narrowly leaving Lubbock with a miraculous overtime win over Texas Tech, Texas suffered back-to-back losses to unranked opponents.
It appeared that Texas head coach Tom Herman got the train back on the tracks after pulling out three straight wins, but unfortunately suffered a heartbreaking loss last week to Iowa State.
It wasn’t just any loss. This one stung for the entire program. It was senior day for the players, a berth to the Big 12 title game was on the line and Herman was coaching in hopes solidify his future in Austin.
Everything was seemingly lost in an instant. Shortly after the loss to Iowa State, two star players chose to forgo the remainder of the season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. On top of that, the program is now the center of the hottest topic in the college football landscape — will Texas be able to land Urban Meyer?
To no surprise, Texas took a tumble in this weeks USA TODAY Sports Re-Rank of all college football teams. The Longhorns dropped nine spots to No. 30 overall.
