Jeff Okudah listed as backup on first unofficial Detroit Lions depth chart

Former Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah is listed as a backup on the Detroit Lions’ first unofficial depth chart.

Former Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah will have to wait for his first career start in the NFL.

The unofficial depth chart was released by the Detroit Lions on Thursday and Okudah is listed as a backup behind five-year veteran Justin Coleman. In fact, all throughout preseason camp, Okudah was repping most of the time with the No. 2s rather than on with the first string.

And while many would have thought it a foregone conclusion that Okudah would elbow his way into the starting lineup immediately as the No. 3 overall pick, making that jump from college to the NFL at the cornerback position isn’t as easy as one would think. It now looks like the team will be patient and ease Okudah into his career.

It was also a revelation on Thursday that Okudah suffered a slight hamstring pull and was limited in practice. Even more reason to not rush things with a guy that has all the tools to be an All-Pro type player on the backend of the defense at the game’s highest level.
