Samuel Cosmi is the lone Longhorn listed on ESPN’s preseason All-America team

Texas left tackle Samuel Cosmi joins an impressive group of players on ESPN’s preseason All-America team.

Texas left tackle Samuel Cosmi is one of the top overall players in college football this season.

Cosmi has been named to nearly every preseason honor that you can think of, therefore it’s no surprise to see him listed on ESPN’s preseason All-America team.

“The 6-7, 309-pound redshirt junior is back at left tackle to protect Sam Ehlinger’s blind side. Cosmi’s blend of size, quick feet and experience makes him one of the most complete offensive linemen in college football. He played right tackle two years ago for the Longhorns and enters the 2020 season with 26 career starts.”

ESPN senior writer Chris Low released the short list of honorees on Tuesday. Only players from the Big 12, SEC and ACC were considered. Any player that decided to opt out of the season due to coronavirus concerns were left off of the list.

Seven Big 12 players were selected to the preseason All-America team. It was a tie between each program in the conference in terms of who had the most selections, considering only one player from seven different programs appeared on the list.

RB – Chuba Hubbard – Oklahoma State

TE – Charlie Kolar – Iowa State

C – Creed Humphrey – Oklahoma

OT – Samuel Cosmi – Texas

DT – Darius Stills – West Virginia

S – Trevon Moehrig – TCU

KR – Joshua Youngblood – Kansas State

Cosmi is widely projected to become a first-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. In fact, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report currently has him going as high as No. 11 overall to the Denver Broncos.

Throughout Cosmi’s collegiate career at Texas, he’s been on the field for 1,162 pass-block snaps. According to PFF, he’s only allowed four sacks during that time.
