This past weekend marked cut day for the NFL as teams around the country pared down their rosters to the 53-man maximum. Fourteen Spartans made main NFL rosters to start the season, but others are still trying to find their spot. One of the most high-profile Spartans still looking for a home is former Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke.
On Tuesday, it was reported by Kyle Meinke of MLive that Lewerke could be staying in Michigan, as he got a workout this week from the Detroit Lions.
The Lions worked out former Michigan State QB Brian Lewerke and former Michigan RB Karan Higdon today.
Others: DB Breon Borders, WR Emmanuel Butler, DT Demarcus Christmas, DB Evan Foster, DE Jalen Jelks, WR Cameron Meredith

The Lions already have two quarterbacks on their main roster (Matthew Stafford, Chase Daniel) and another on the practice squad in former Purdue QB David Blough, however, you never know when a spot might open up.
The Lions probably have a good grasp of Lewerke’s skills since they didn’t have to send scouts far to check out MSU players, so this could be a good fit for Lewerke at some point, just maybe not to start the season.
