Three-star tight end target Gunnar Helm has serious interest in the University of Texas.
The 6-5, 225-pound athlete is taking it upon himself to visit Austin next Monday. The Longhorns sent an offer to Helm on June 9, discussions have appeared to pick up steam ever since.
The trip to Austin will be his last visit before making a final decision on his future. Iowa and Wisconsin are reported to be the two other top programs in the running, but tight ends coach Jay Boulware has done an excellent job in making a lasting impression in such a short time period.
He’s only had three unofficial visits with Texas, Ohio State and UCLA. Although the Ohio State and Texas visits have been the most recent, the Buckeyes have yet to offer Helm.
He’s received a variety offers from well-respected programs such as Georgia, TCU, Penn State, LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, Utah, and Auburn.
Helm is currently listed as the No. 6 overall prospect in the state of Colorado out of the 2021 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. It’s certainly a position of need for Texas. If Helm does in fact choose to become a Longhorn, he’d be the only true tight end prospect to commit to Texas within the past two recruiting cycles.
