WATCH: Texas WR Jordan Whittington, others look fit amidst workouts

The Longhorns began on-the-field workouts with players this week.

This is the first week that college football coaches can conduct on-the-field workouts with players.

For Texas specifically, they’ve released a schedule where Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will be designated lift and run activities. Tuesday and Thursday will be set aside for on-the-field drills.

It didn’t take long for videos and pictures to begin circulating on Twitter, showcasing impressive fitness and physical stature of several of the players. Wide receiver Jordan Whittington appears to look fully healthy and has packed on plenty of muscle this offseason.

Whittington was a five-star prospect out of the 2019 recruiting class, but unfortunately was sidelined the majority of last season due to lingering pain and swelling following a sports hernia surgery. He is expected to compete in the slot with Jake Smith, although new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is expected to use Whittington’s rare, versatile talent in a variety of ways.

Defensive back Chris Brown also showcased his increased strength and muscle mass on Monday. Brown started in 10 games last season, compiling 46 tackles, three tackles for loss, two pass breakups, one interception, and one fumble recovery.

Backup tight end Jared Wiley is expected to compete for playing time behind Cade Brewer and Malcolm Epps this season. As a freshman in 2019, he played in 12 games with two starts against No. 13 Baylor and Texas Tech.

If there happens to be a college football season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, you can bet that the Longhorns will be physically fit and ready to go.
