Four-star defensive end lists Texas in top five schools

Texas is one of five schools left in the hunt to land four-star defensive end Shemar Turner.

Texas is inching towards landing another highly sought-after defensive end prospect.

Four-star defensive end Shermar Turner recently announced the top five programs that he’s considering committing to. According to 247Sports, he’s the No. 10 player in the state of Texas in the 2021 recruiting class. The DeSoto, Texas native has hauled in offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, TCU, Auburn and many others.

It’s not easy to narrow down a list of offers as impressive as his, so that’s quite a feat in itself for the Longhorns recruiting department. As a junior in 2019, Turner received first-team all-district honors. The 6-3, 260-pound lineman has college-ready size and is a versatile player.

The five remaining programs left in the hunt to land Turner are Alabama, Texas, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M.

Texas continues to make it a priority to bolster their defensive line. For a position group that has been lacking for the past several years, the Longhorns have landed two four-star lineman in the 2021 recruiting class on top of five-star athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders who’s projected to play defensive end.

That’s not including the addition of five-star defensive end Alfred Collins from the 2020 recruiting class. If Texas can land Turner, defense at Texas will be well on its way to becoming relevant again.
