After the recent additions of defensive back Jahdae Barron and transfer wide receiver Tarik Black, we’ve decided to take a look at Texas’ updated blue chip ratio among other programs.
As a reminder, four-star and five-star athletes are considered to be blue chip players. These prospects are more sought after and highly-rated, oftentimes the best at their positions.
Overall, the Longhorns are currently sitting with the No. 1 recruiting class in the Big 12 and Top 10 nationally. Coaching and development are extremely important in college football, but talent acquisition is just as crucial.
According to 247Sports composite, Texas is ranked just below Alabama as the top two schools with the highest percentage of blue chip signees in the 2020 recruiting class.
Updated 2020 Blue Chip Ratio: 4/5 Star Signees per Class
1. Bama: 84%
2. Texas: 80%
3. Georgia: 76%
4. Clemson: 74%
5. Florida: 72%
6. LSU: 71%
7. Ohio State: 68%
8. Auburn: 62%
9. Oklahoma: 61%
10. Tennessee: 57%
11. A&M: 54%
12. Oregon: 45%— David Allen (@Doc_Texas) May 11, 2020
It’s an incredible feat to surpass powerhouse programs such as Clemson, Georgia, and LSU. In total, the Longhorns secured commitments from two five-star athletes and 15 four-star prospects.
Programs who sign over 50% of blue chip recruits are known to have a much higher advantage of competing for the National Championship. It appears the cards are aligning just right for Texas to become legitimate contenders.
