3-Point Shot Wisconsin vs. Penn State

What are three things Wisconsin needs to do in order to win on the road against Penn Sate?

3-POINTER: CAN WISCONSIN LIMIT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PENN STATE’S FRONTCOURT?

Illinois had its way against Wisconsin in the paint as the Illini became the third Big Ten opponent to score at least 30 points in the paint. The only team to not score at least 30 points around the rim was Ohio State (24 points in the paint).

With Wisconsin allowing an average of 31.5 points in the paint over Big Ten play could mean bad news for Wisconsin’s frontcourt defense. Considering Penn State is averaging 27.5 points in the paint over their first four Big Ten games.

Break that number down a little farther and you’ll find that in Penn State’s two wins in Big Ten play against Maryland and Iowa they averaged 37 points down low and in their two losses to Ohio State and Rutgers they averaged 18 points down low.

Making it important that the combination of Nate Reuvers and Micah Potter are strong in defending the post and are able to consistently contest the Nittany Lions shots in the paint.

If Penn State can generate points in the paint as easily as Illinois did it will be difficult for Wisconsin to leave with a road victory. Making it important that Reuvers plays a better game down low defensively against Penn State as he dealt with foul trouble against the Illini.

As Reuvers will be counted on to try and slow down Lamar Stevens who’s averaging 13.5 points over conference play. Wisconsin’s ability to take him away down low or Mike Watkins (11.1 points per game) and prevent the two from getting an offensive rebound will be important in making sure the Nittany Lions don’t get another chance at a shot around the basket.
