3 keys to the game for the Oklahoma Sooners defense vs. Iowa State

Oklahoma should be locked in on these three keys defensively in order to come out on top Saturday against Iowa State.

Coverage needs to hold up

Oklahoma’s best plan of attack is to blanket these receivers. For a young quarterback who has shown the propensity to evade and still thrive under pressure the way Becht has, minimizing the throwing windows will put the Sooners in a strong position.

Becht is the No. 1 QB in evading pressure (out of 149 qualified QBs).

His offensive line isn’t perfect, and we’ve seen how many bodies Oklahoma will rotate up front. Defensively, the Sooners should have the advantage in the trenches.

That matters.

That advantage is magnified if the linebackers and defensive backs can lock down passing lanes and make things difficult for Becht to throw the ball.

Sure, he can evade pressure, but eventually, the rush will get there, or he’ll have to force passes. And when you force throws, you make mistakes.
