It’s not a true college football offseason until Texas is projected to face off in the Alamo Bowl by the seasons end.
While some national media outlets are expecting Texas to make considerate strides under first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian in 2021, others feel it will be a gradual process and/or more of the same.
On Saturday, 247Sports released their updated summer bowl projections and playoff picks. To no surprise, the Longhorns were placed in the Alamo Bowl. Since 2012, Texas has appeared in this particular bowl game four different times. The most recent appearances were 2019 and 2020.
Texas’ projected opponent from the Pac-12 was Arizona State. The two programs have only squared off once in history, where the Longhorns defeated the Sun Devils 52-34 in 2007 at the Holiday Bowl under former head coach Mack Brown.
In regards to the Big 12 as a whole, two other programs had more respected landing spots than Texas. Iowa State was selected to face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and Oklahoma was projected to play Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
