New York Jets
When will Joe Flacco return?
Sam Darnold will be taking the starting snaps for the Jets again in 2020. But there’s a new No. 2 in town, it’s Joe Flacco. Signed this offseason, Flacco has been dealing with a neck injury, but when healthy, the 35-year-old is certainly a better backup option the Jets have had in recent memory, and because of the COVID-19 pandemic, more QBs might be better for every team.
On his injury, according to Jets Wire, Flacco won’t be missing much time. Flacco has made progress since undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disk in April. He’s slated for a “final checkup” in early September, likely just before the Bills and Jets open the season against one another on Sept. 13.
Flacco signed with the Jets in May on a one-year, $1.5 million deal. His decision to undergo surgery was one he wrestled with on a daily basis, as he was not sure he wanted to continue his playing career. Flacco ultimately opted for surgery and another shot in the NFL with New York. Jets Wire says even if Flacco is cleared before the Bills and Jets play, he could still sit out a week or two. It is unlikely that he will be cleared for contact at any point in training camp and will likely be relegated to light, non-contact work for the next month. David Fales and rookie James Morgan have assumed backup duties behind Darnold.
