New York Jets
Jets miss out on cornerback
The Jets easily have the worst secondary in the AFC East. Not only is it a below-average unit in its own right post-Jamal Adams, the rest of the division has invested heavily in their respective secondaries. Gang Green apparently tried to close the gap, at least a little, and failed to do so, last week.
Jets Wire writes that New York put a waiver claim on cornerback M.J. Stewart. Ultimately, Stewart ended up with the Browns because they had the higher waiver priority. Stewart was a second-round pick out of North Carolina by the Buccaneers at the 2018 draft. He started out his rookie season as the fifth cornerback on the Bucs’ depth chart before making his first career start in Week 2. However, after injuring his foot, Stewart lost his starting job and never got it back.
In 2018, Stewart had 33 total tackles and three pass defenses. In 2019, Stewart recorded 35 tackles and two pass defenses in 10 games with one start.
The Buccaneers waived Stewart on August 6.
