Chan speaks

Guess who’s back in the NFL? It’s Chan Gailey. The former Bills head coach joins the Dolphins as their offensive coordinator in 2020. The 68-year-old last coached with the Jets in the same role in 2016. While both with the Jets and Bills, Gailey had experience working with Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Upon his first chat with the media, Gailey revealed he was actually surprised the Dolphins wanted him.

“Right at the end of the season, (Coach Flores) called and I was kind of taken aback a little bit; but then we talked about it as a family and we just – I had no idea,” Gailey said via Dolphins Wire. “I didn’t think so, but we just felt like we were being led to do this and so it was something we felt very strong and very excited and very comfortable with.”

Of course Gailey’s biggest task this offseason will be deciding between Fitzpatrick and fifth-overall rookie Tua Tagovailoa as his starting quarterback in Week 1. Tagovailoa is said to be healthy, but we’ll see who Miami goes with. Buffalo’s first road game of the season will likely feature whichever QB Gailey picks, as the two teams square off in Week 2.
