10 Michigan football recruiting targets to watch in 2021

247Sports’ Steve Lorenz joined WolverinesWire and the Locked On Wolverines podcast to share who Michigan’s going after the hardest in 2021.

Donovan Edwards

2021 West Bloomfield (MI) four-star RB Donovan Edwards
Hometown West Bloomfield (MI)
Height 5-foot-11
Weight 190-pounds
Position  Running back
247Sports ranking 4-star, 33 overall

Lorenz’s take:

“Michigan — they’re not in a weird spot, but in kind of a weird spot at running back, where the last two cycles they signed their top guy in Zach Charbonnet and Blake Corum. But those are the only two backs that they signed total. So, I actually think it’s still kind of a position of need in this class.

“Donovan Edwards, at this point, probably along with TreVeyon Henderson out of Virginia — the No. 1 back in the country — are probably the two guys that Michigan’s probably recruiting the hardest.

“Edwards being an in-state guy, I think the pressure’s gonna be on Michigan to win that race in the long run. Again, Michigan got in pretty early, but same schools — Ohio State, not so much Notre Dame in this one, Georgia being a factor here. And he also grabbed Oklahoma, Alabama, USC, Florida State, Texas A&M all in the winter evaluation period. Could see some of those schools come into the forefront down the road, but it could be a Michigan – Ohio State battle, we’ll see.”
