Zion Williamson goes for 21 points in first back-to-back situation

The No. 1 overall pick played in his first set of back-to-back games on Wednesday against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks.

New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson scored 21 points Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks for his 13th straight game with at least 20 points.

After debuting in January, Williamson faced off against Luka Doncic for the first time this season as the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year recorded 30 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Mavericks to the 127-123 overtime win.

Meanwhile, Williamson played in his first set of back-to-back games on Wednesday after the Pelicans faced the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.

While there were some questions if Williamson would play in back-to-back games upon his return, the No. 1 overall pick has shown no lingering effects from his knee surgery and was given the green light to play against the Mavericks.

Although the Pelicans lost in overtime to the Timberwolves the previous night, Williamson logged 35 minutes on Wednesday night and still flashed his elite athleticism throughout the game.

While much was made of the minutes restriction placed on Williamson upon his return, the rookie has played at least 30 minutes in each of his last six games with the Pelicans. With Williamson playing in his first back-to-back situation, questions regarding his workload and playing time should be coming to an end as he passed that test.

Next up for the Pelicans: A home matchup vs. the Miami Heat on Friday.
