Zaida Puni’s walk-off home run lifts Lady Vols over Texas A&M.

A walk-off two-run home run by Zaida Puni propelled the Lady Vols to victory Saturday.

Puni, a sophomore third baseman, for No. 14 Tennessee (28-12 9-6 SEC), ended the game with her ninth home run of the season. The Lady Vols defeated Texas A&M (24-15, 3-10 SEC), 7-5, at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Puni went 2-for-4 for, UT, which fell behind the Aggies, 4-1 in the fourth inning as Texas A&M, trailing 1-0, tallied four times in the fourth inning.

Tennessee opened a 1-0 lead in the second inning with Kelcy Leach’s double plated McKenna Gibson with the game’s first run.

The Lady Vols pulled to within, 4-3, in the third inning as Katie Taylor scored when Anna Fox stole a base and took third on the throw to make it, 4-2, before Ivy Davis came up with an RBI double later in the frame.

Tennessee tied the game, 4-4 in the fifth when Ashley Morgan drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

After the Aggies took a 5-4 advantage, Davis drove in the tying run with a single in the sixth setting the stage for Puni’s walk-off home run that netted head coach Karen Weekly her 1,200th career win.

Tennessee freshman reliever went 1.1 inning and gave up a walk and struck out one, picked up her first win of the 2022 season.

Erin Edmoundson started in the circle and yielded five runs, six hits and three walks. She struck out four.
