The SEC must not be paying too much attention to Twitter.

Despite concern over the Gators’ defensive play, two weeks of play have netted two conference superlatives from individuals on the unit.

Last week, linebacker Ventrell Miller was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, and this week, defensive end Zach Carter was named the conference’s Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Carter, who is a new starter on the defensive line this season, had the best game of his career by far in the 38-24 win over South Carolina. He totaled eight tackles, three of which were solo, and added 1.5 sacks.

He was a much bigger factor than he was in the Gators’ season opener against Ole Miss last Saturday, when he netted just three tackles and half a tackle for loss.

Carter entered his junior year expected to be the leader of a Florida defensive line that had to replace a number of starters from a year ago. It appears he is starting to fit into that role now two games into the season.
