Wimbledon 2021: Tennys Sandgren set for first match

Former University of Tennessee men’s tennis player Tennys Sandgren is set for his first round match at Wimbledon.

Sandgren will compete against Norbert Gombos on Tuesday. The former Vol is ranked No. 68 in the ATP. Gombos is No. 94.

Sandgren turned professional in 2011 and has won 43 matches, while losing 65.

A native of Gallatin, Tennessee, Sandgren played at UT for two seasons from 2010-11.

As a freshman at Tennessee, Sandgren went 10-0 in Southeastern Conference singles play as the No. 4 slot in the Vols’ lineup. He helped Tennessee win the SEC regular season title and tournament championship.

As a sophomore in Knoxville, Sandgren went 37-6.
