Why Ohio State football was a winner even in an off week

Ohio State football didn’t play in Week 3, but with Georgia almost losing to an unranked opponent, it may still be a winner from the exciting Saturday slate.

The Ohio State Buckeyes were down 3-0 to Akron in a game that followed the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs slaughtering of the Clemson Tigers in Week 1 action.

The Bulldogs looked invincible despite starting slowly against a solid Clemson defensive front. They eventually won 34-3 in that game. Week 2 came, and Georgia continued to dominate.

However, when it went on the road in Week 3 action, those sentiments changed as the Bulldogs were down to the unranked Kentucky Wildcats heading into the final 15 minutes. Georgia won 13-12, but Carson Beck didn’t look to the Heisman candidate some thought he would become.

On Saturday as well, the Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide both beat up on opponents with the former winning by 49 over UTSA a week after Michigan by 19. Alabama beat Wisconsin 42-10.

The only team Ohio State needed to slip up was Georgia, and it did just that Saturday in Lexington. While it won’t drop in the rankings without an actual loss, it did look fallible, which is exactly what the rest of the nation needed.

With that, Ohio State football, despite being off this week, arguably won the week of rest and practice.
