Who is the Oklahoma Sooners biggest competition in 2021?

A look at which teams could be the biggest threat to the Oklahoma Sooners crown in 2021.

The upcoming football season for the Oklahoma Sooners will be yet another challenge to get into the College Football Playoffs.

It has been discussed ad nauseam about the expectations for the team are for 2021. The team has seen plenty of pre-season hype as the second-best team in the country behind the defending national champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Sooners also have the favorite for the Heisman Memorial Trophy to lead them this season with Spencer Rattler. As well as adding two of the top transfers on that side of the ball with offensive tackle Wanya Morris and running back Eric Gray.

The defense as a whole returns most of the front six players minus Ronnie Perkins who was drafted by the New England Patriots. The top returning pass rusher in all of college football, Nik Bonitto looks to bring the same level of intensity in 2021. He led the defense in sacks and total pressures with Isaiah Thomas right on his heels. The duo looks to harass quarterbacks once again, much like they did all season. One question remains on the back end with a different look in the secondary.

There will be plenty of challengers to step up and try to take the Big 12 Conference crown from the Sooners for the first time in seven seasons. It begins with the Iowa State Cyclones.
