Who does Caleb Williams want the Bears to draft at No. 9 overall? (Hint: A former teammate)

Caleb Williams doesn’t just know which position he wants the Bears to draft after him. He knows exactly which player.

There were still a few hours to go on Thursday before Caleb Williams officially became QB1 of the Chicago Bears, but that didn’t stop him from already trying to help the front office make personnel decisions.

Considering the Bears hold the No. 1 and No. 9 overall picks — and Williams is widely expected to go No. 1 overall — the USC product was asked who he wants his new team to take a few selections after him.

According to Pro Football Talk, the answer was pretty simple:

“I’d probably go Olumuyiwa Fashanu because I know he’d put his life on the line for me, protecting me,” Williams told reporters Thursday. “Then I’d go one of the top three wide receivers.”

The offensive tackle out of Penn State is a projected first-rounder and was teammates with Williams at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., so it’s not much of a surprise the two want to link up again in the pros.

Grabbing a blue-chip offensive tackle is always a good idea when you’re building an offense, but we’ll see if the Bears are willing to listen to Williams if Fashanu is still on the board by the time they make their second selection.
