Texas put up 70 points against in-state rival Texas Tech in Week 4.
It was such a dominant performance that the Longhorns did not have to punt a single time for the second consecutive week. Some may argue that the two blowouts came against lesser quality opponents, but Texas did what they were expected to do, and more importantly displayed disciplined football with minimal mistakes.
Now, can they be consistent?
Texas will now enter the gauntlet of their schedule this season, starting with a tough road matchup against TCU in Week 5. Although Steve Sarkisian has the more talented squad, Gary Patterson’s team has bested the Longhorns seven times over the last 10 seasons.
The Longhorns will then face Oklahoma and Oklahoma State before their bye week. When they return from the week off, Baylor and Iowa State await them.
Although Texas was not ranked in the AP Poll this week, ESPN’s updated College Football Power Index has them as the No. 8 team in the country, moving up four spots from last week.
Their lone loss to Arkansas in Week 2 doesn’t look as bad as it did a couple of weeks ago, considering the Razorbacks landed at No. 8 in the latest AP Poll. Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida and Michigan were the only teams listed ahead of Texas in ESPN’s FPI rankings.
Texas will continue to climb if they’re able to put together an impressive win over TCU this week.
