Where Texas football currently sits in 2022 recruiting class rankings

Steve Sarkisian’s first full recruiting cycle at Texas is off to a strong start. Where do they stand among the nation’s top programs?

Steve Sarkisian’s first full recruiting cycle at Texas is off to a strong start.

The Longhorns currently have eight commitments for the 2022 recruiting class. Seven of these are four-star prospects, while one is a three-star recruit that will likely rise to a four-star within the coming months (Trevell Johnson).

Texas’ 2022 class is headlined by running back Jaydon Blue and quarterback Maalik Murphy. Blue is the highest rated player of the group and is one of just three offensive players that have committed to the Longhorns thus far.

The two most recent commitments, defensive tackle Kristopher Ross and defensive end Zac Swanson, were excellent additions by Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, Texas remains the No. 8 class in the nation for the 2022 cycle even after the additions of Ross and Swanson. However, the Longhorns currently sit behind Oklahoma for the top class in the Big 12. The Sooners have the No. 5 class in the country, but have one more commit than Texas for the time being.

In regards to the average grade per player, Texas only sits behind Georgia, Ohio State and Texas A&M. Once Sarkisian is able to land a few more commitments from other sought-after recruits in the 2022 class, the Longhorns should reclaim the top class in the Big 12 and potentially have a top-5 class in the nation.
