Where Stefon Diggs lands in PFF’s WR rankings

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs Pro Football Focus’ rankings.

The Buffalo Bills have one of the NFL’s best wide receivers on their roster now, according to Pro Football Focus.

And you already know which name it is.

PFF narrowed this list a little smaller than their usual ones. Instead of slotting a ranking of 32 (one for each NFL team), the football analytics outlet pegged the 25 best wide receivers in the league heading into the 2020 season. Even with that smaller total, the new, shiny weapon for the Bills still easily makes the list.

Per PFF’s rankings, Stefon Diggs is the 12th best receiver in the NFL heading into the upcoming season. Here’s why:

12. STEFON DIGGS, BUFFALO BILLS

Buffalo’s receiving unit got a big boost with the addition of Diggs’ savvy route running and strong play on contested balls. His 58% contested catch rate over the past three years ranks second in the NFL, and his 119.1 passer rating generated on said targets is by far the best. While John Brown and Cole Beasley are good receiving options who help form a top-five receiving unit in the NFL, that’s an area they massively struggled in. Diggs can’t fix Josh Allen‘s downfield accuracy issues, but he’ll certainly do his part if delivered a catchable ball.

Peeping Diggs’ name in PFF’s list certainly is a nice sign, considering the Bills gave up a haul for him. Diggs cost Buffalo a slew of picks, including a first-round selection, back in March. His explanation via PFF should be music to the Bills, and Josh Allen’s, ears as well. Acquiring a wideout with excellent hands will undoubtedly help. According to NBC Sports, overall, the Bills had 26 dropped passes last season, the second-most in the NFL. Yes, Allen has to improve his accuracy, but with only five less dropped passes, Allen’s completion percent can be rounded to 60 percent, the exact target area for a young QB.

In the remainder of PFF’s list, the Bills also have the best wide receiver in the AFC East. Only one other from the division appears on their rankings, the Dolphins’ DeVante Parker (22). And while this might only interest Diggs himself if he sees this, his former team, the Vikings, have Adam Thielen listed, but Diggs is two spots ahead of him.

Overall, the Falcons’ Julio Jones edges out the Saints’ Michael Thomas for the top spot.
