Where Florida ranks in US News & World Report’s public university rankings

While Florida ranks near the top of this list, one might be surprised at some of the other schools that made the cut.

U.S. News & World Report recently released its college and university database for ranking public institutes of higher learning ahead of 2024. The data can be filtered in many different manners, but the list of top public schools is the most germane to the Gator Nation.

“Public colleges and universities typically operate under the supervision of state governments and are funded, in part, by tax dollars and subsidies from the state” reads the mission statement. “As a result, these universities often offer discounted tuition to residents of their states. Public schools run the gamut from small liberal arts colleges to large research institutions.”

Below are the top 25 highest-ranked public colleges and universities in the 2024 Best Colleges rankings from U.S. News & World Report, listed according to their overall ranking. While Florida ranks near the top of this list, one might be surprised at some of the other schools that made the cut.

Note that all undergraduate enrollment numbers are as of fall 2022.
